I realize you can lengthen your tippet but for me that's just more uneccessary work.
I hate line twists and even with my over the shoulder pull casts I still get them. So I use a swivel.

The shot line is 4-6 feet, the leader/tippet is 18-24 inches.

I use the smallest swivel I can find.

I can fish up to 8 ft deep or as shallow as 2 feet if I wanted to.

The swivel going up to the guide never really bothered me and even if reeled in past it and then casting out, never really had a problem.
Well I know a little something, you won't ever know...

Black bird shot stays where you put it.

Yeah but some guys like to slide there shot around to more effectively fish differint slots in a river. I am adjusting my shot pattern quite often "at times" and could not tell you how many times a change in my pattern has changed the day. I use water gremlin as well and darken it to take out the shine.

Dont know what you mean, but I dont slide shot around just to fish shallow water and riffles.

If you slide the shot together or "bulk" shot, it is effective in getting your presentation down in deeper faster water. If you spread the shot out more uniform, you can trot or hold back and get a good drift in shallow water

Man oh man...nothing to talk about these days. This post is still kicking around I see.

Shot patterns are pointless, just run michigan crickets.
