Got on the slopes just before new years. It was a blast! That sport is getting expensive! I spent about $250 for the family/day! Could go fishing for a week with that money. I thought they would give you a break because half the mountain was dirt and rock. I guess the cost to make snow is pretty high.

Yeah it is really expensive... prices went up this year afew bucs... I know life ticket fee's were lower when they didn't have any snow however. They are getting hammered with snow now though. :snow: :snow: :snow:
I agree with ya, Fishin! My ski club was cancelled here because of the lack of snow. Sad thing is, it's not looking much better for next week. Weekend weather report here has temps. in the upper 40's - mid 50's with rain. They can't even make snow because temps. stay above freezing at night!

I like to ski also, but I would rather have a mild winter like this year than freezing temps and snow!!
Pretty soon all the senior citizens will be setting up resorts in New York ion the winter!!! :D

The lack of snow this year up to now has been a real drag. I like living here because I would rather be somewhere with some snow than someplace it just gets cold, windy and rainy in winter. If you're unhappy with the downhill prospects, I would recommend trying XC skiing - fairly cheap investment and there are great places to go near the Salmon River - try Osceola Touring Center where you can rent stuff and ski in a really pretty area near one of the upstream branches of the Salmon. After you get decent at XC, buy some backcountry skiis and head out to Winona State Forest near Lacona or lots of great places down here in Onondaga County (Syracuse) - Highland Forest, Beaver Lake Nature Center, Heiberg Forest, Green Lakes State Park, to name just a few. You don't have to ski like an olympian to XC, just take it like hiking and you'll have a super time enjoying yourself out in the woods - because you're moving you stay warm too. I really prefer XC on the east coast - rolling terrain and cold temps make for good touring to keep you warm. If you want to downhill, my advice is book a flight for Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City or British Columbia - in Lake Tahoe area you can ski most of the year in a pair of long underwear and cotton pants, T-neck. sweater and shell - skiied for 5 years there while I was a graduate student and never owned a pair of goggles - just sunglasses - oh yeah - lunch - have it on the deck - barbeque and beer in the sunshine - that only happens here late season.
Looking forward to splitting a day between skiing and fishing near Pulaski sometime soon if mother nature cooperates for a while -

Skiing is my preferred form of winter recreation, and it's been pretty lean here in VT too, which puts a serious hurt on the state's economy. I'll refrain from the discussion about global warming :blah: I heard the director of VAST (the states privately funded snowmobile group) the other day, and he expects that as many as half of the state's sled dealers will lose their franchises due to the poor sales for the third year in a row.
I've noticed that SR area seems to have some snowmobile trails nearby-anyone got any comments on a fishing/sledding vacation.

The Tug Hill area is loaded with places to stay. However, they don't have much snow right now. I believe they got about 15 inches on Wednesday, but I'd imagine it won't last long with the temps. and the amount of people who will try to ride it before it melts.
