First, has anyone else heard of or know about in January 2007 the Douglaston Salmon Run will be closed to the public. The only way to fish that area is if you stay at their lodge or certain other lodges to get passes??
Craydaddy, if you ever get the chance I would like to hook up with you sometime.

I believe you have it right. I think you can also call and see if they will open by reservation for selected days. If there are enough people calling, they might open it up for people who are not staying at their lodge and in the dead of winter, I think that would probably be on weekends. Also, as you go downriver, the shelf ice builds up more than upriver(I think) and it could get a little treacherous, so that might be another reason they are closing in the winter.

The DSR will still be open but you will have to call a day before you fish down there and let them know you will be there to buy a pass. They will have a designated time frame for calling to make a reservation and the day you wish to fish to pick up your pass. Originally, they were going to close after December 31st, but due to a high interest from their patrons they have decided to stay open but by the reservation only. Another option is you can purchase a season pass that is valid from January 1st till the end of April. However, if you buy the season pass you will still have to call the day before and let them know you will be fishing down there. If you stay at their lodges, your passes are included but a few other lodges have business passes, but the same holds true, you will still have to call a day ahead of time. Hope this clears up any confusion.
