This happened about a half hour from where I live. This buck had charged the fence a few times in the last couple of weeks and was beating up the other buck that was in the pen with it. Police are still investagating but it does not appear that the deer will be charged with anything.
The deer was like a pet to this guy but it goes to show that be it a man or a deer don't mess with his territory when there are hot females in it. The next door neighbor had to drive his truck into the pen to drive the deer into another pen just so he could check on this poor guy. Life can end in an instant so cheerish all the special moments while you can.

A friend of mine who raises whitetails for a living had a similar run in a few years ago but had much better ending. He is still alive. He had 2 bucks in a pen and when he went to feed them he noticed the one was cowering in the back corner. The other one was acting normally and let him into the pen to seperate the cowering one into another pen. Once he had seperated the two and closed the ajacent pens gate the remaining one charged and mauled him for 20 minutes. He wound up shoving his arm down the deers throat and cut off his air supply until they both collapsed onto the ground. Once the deer figured out he was not the top dog he back off. It took my friend an hour to drag himself 100 yds to get back to his house to call for help. Result of attack 1 collapsed lung, 2 shreaded hands from hanging onto the horns, 8 deep puncture wounds from the rack and too many stitches to count. The deer was of a 170 class buck and appx 250lbs. The deer died the next day from the stress of the fight. The deer that he separated out of the pen was of a 190 class. This misfortunate incident happened on the 1 week of October.
I asked him what had possible happened to make this deer act this way. His reply was that he took this deer with him to numerous sport shows in the past and most importantly it was a bottle raised deer. Both of these factors made the deer fearless of man. And that even though the "rut" was not in as of yet that the deer was preparing for the rut and demonstating his domance no matter who it was. My freind told me that he had a true miracal in being able to get his hand down that deers throat cause if had not been able to he knows that he would surely been killed that day.
