I have fished the SR for quite a few years now and I would like to try some Tribs...I am not sure of locations or Fishability access....Not afraid to walk ....Also, do any of the shops in town sell maps with tribs listed...Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Will be in town Sunday-Wed, and would like to try some tribs tues or Wed after the crowds die down.
Thanks

Dude do what most of us had to do to find these tribs, get a map, scout out streams, do internet searches,, you really wont find many people giving you directions to smaller tribs..

Yeah get yourself an aeiral map at one of the local shops for $4. It'll show you all the tribs and holes in the SR. Nothing is a secret anymore. I fished the tribs sat-tues and with the high water in the river there was a ton of people everywhere. Fortunetly there were also a ton of fish. You just have to walk the creeks a bit and find an open spot where fish are holding. Also, this site will help you explore the areas around the SR from your pc.

Please refrain from posting the names of small creeks or streams. Due our high volume of traffic we feel it is in the best interest of the fishery to steer clear of posting these details.

Probably because a one point, they too were posted in an open forum. There is also more than SR tribs listed. I'm just a guest here and I try and abide by the rules...

Several reasons why I don't post reports about tribs...

1) they are smaller than the SR and can't handle as many people
2) some should actually be closed as they have natural spawning activity
3) I worked hard and drove many miles learning them the hard way
4) If you had a good day and posted about it with the name of the trib, you can be guarranteed to see a ton of people there the next day
5) many tribs are no longer stocked by the state and those that are do not receive nearly as many fish as the larger rivers ie: SR, Gennesee etc.
6) Would you "invite" a caste of thousands to crowd you out of YOUR "secret" spot

Sure, the tribs are no secret, most show on maps. However, the more people that are "handed" these places on a "silver platter", the more frustrating it will be to find unpressured fish. A case in point...I was in a small trib by myself having a fair day when along comes an "angler" who sees me land a fish. He proceeds to start ripping at the hole trying to "hook up" with anything he can hit. Quickly, his cannonball rig hung on the bottom and he proceeded to walk into the middle of the pool to try to pull his rig out to save it (probably 10 cents woth of lead and hook). Needless to say good bye fishes. Before I yelled at him for spooking the fish back to the lake, I asked him how he found the spot. His reply...you guessed it..."I read about it on the internet last night. someone said they had a good day here yesterday." Therefore, I don't even tell my brother where I am catching my fish anymore.

If you decide to post a report, it is best to not mention names of small streams or someday you may find it impossible to fish them when you want to.

we all know what "word of mouth" can do.. I have seen my favorite spots that were once pretty bare with fishermen, now as crowded as many of the main holes of the river...

it's not that we are trying to "hide" anything from anyone per say, it's just that we have worked hard to find these spots..

and it's not even about spots that are loaded with fish.. it's nice to fish a small trib with some nice pockets without people chasing fish toward and away from you..

it's like playing a round of golf with someone talking in your ear and waving a flag in your face.. it's just overkill and makes it not very fun..

I like #3! that one keeps my mouth shut too! Luckily there's a few places left that aren't completely goonified. Maps and gas can get you fish.

Hey Bluefin,
Which trib did you catch that tuna in? My god that's a beauty.

Went out for them a couple weeks ago up here in NH, about 27 miles out. Had them jumping around the boat, but couldn't hook up. First time I've ever been, it was unbelievable to see a 600 pound fish jump clear out of the water.

That tuna was caught about 9 miles out of Green Harbor in Cape Cod Bay. It weighed just over 500 pounds in the round, about 410 dressed for Japan. Net $ came to $8,500. Oh crap...I just gave up one of my "secret" spots.

Bluefin,

Excellent post. Honestly I wish the internet would go away regarding fishing LOCATIONS. I don't say this because I'm unwilling to share. I share a lot, but as I see fit. People may not like that comment, but I don't say it to snub new or existing fisherman that want to learn. I would like to say to all that the coolest thing ever is to try to learn tribs and conditions and everything and get blanked over and over and finally HIT IT RIGHT the way you planned it. That is awesome and so much better.

Many of us hate what the internet has done, but don't hate sharing. We all just fear having the experiences that drive us the most.....those AWESOME days go away in a trample of people that don't even know what it is that they are seeking.

It really takes loosing one of these spots that you originally found to know what it is that I mean.

I'm sure I could loose you when it comes to smaller tribs. There are still some that are not known of and thats the way it stays cause the few of us who have that info won't share with guys who post that they have the intention of harpooning as many fish as possible cause they spend so much money up there. Sound familiar?

The seceret creeks you speak of are no seceret but trust me there are others. To do well on them you need to have a brain and figure out the patterns of the fish with flows on other waters to be able to gauge them. But that would be to much work for a snagger but a fisherman does that kind of work.
