The past week was my first on SR and I have a few quick questions, before I return in 2 weeks!
By the way, my experience was amazing.. I only hoooked into about 4 fish in my 3 full days of fishing, but it was well worth it. :D
My questions are- Where are some decent places to stay on town? price/comfort/location
If hooked cleanly, can these fish be controlled? Can fish be steered in other words? Up-stream, down or to a bank?
Are the ***** Creeks some sort of secret location? LOL, ok, I might not get an honest answer here... But I'm asking anyhow :bigeek:
Cheers SF

1. A good place to stay but not in town is Harris Lodging, if there is vacancy. It's at the next exit off of 81 up from Pulaski. 2. If you hook a fish in the mouth you can steer them alot easier than hooking them anywhere else. A good practice is to break your line off if you can see or tell if your fish is foul hooked. Ask another fisherman if they see where the fish is hooked if its in front of them. Most of them will be honest because if its fouled hooked they want to get back to fishing and want you out of the way as fast as possible. Let alone landing a fouled hooked fish is illegal. Re-tie and start again. When in the mouth they most likely will not run your spool out up or down the river. They usually don't go to far and come to the side of the river. 3. As for the creeks this site will not let you put any names of creeks on a post. get a local map and go explore. With all this rain lately you may find a jackpot of fish. Good luck.

Harris lodging is a house that is rented out. $33 a night which includes breakfast. Full kitchen, two bathrooms, plenty of beds, tv's. Just like home. Most of us that stay here book the next year before we leave this year.

Absolutely. Its alot to try an explain, but the long story short if you knowwhat your doing 90% of the time you can make the fish swim in the direction you want it to.
The one starting point I will give you is always stay down stream of your fish. Once that fish gets below you you lose and control you may have had over it.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys. Looking forward for being back 13th through the 15th! We'll see what the crowds are like in a few weeks.
I heard the salmon look pretty sh:censored:y that late in the season, but I'm going to make the best of it.
Hey ditchrat! do you mean spool and line control or tip and rod angles? Sorry to sak so many questions, but I'm looking to make the most out of my trip, this time a round. Some guys make it look smooth, while others look like the fish are dragging them :D

I thought I read that there was video on this site of someone hooking and landing a King, I'm going to try searching for it. Maybe that will give me a better understanding? LOL, or at least a solid visual :o

Welcome.
As far as controlling these or any fish it important to remember angles. Try and put different angles of pressure on the fish, the opposite way he he trying to go instead of just holding your rod high and in front of you. Side pressure with your rod will cause the fish to work harder therefor wearing him down faster.

First off, great video flyguy5910, awesome actually!!!!!!!!!!! That was exactly what I needed to see and I'm kinda surprised there aren't more vid's like yours.. hmmmmm
Eric, your descriptions are very helpful. I appreciate the tips man, its very kind of you. I think what scares me most about those nifty looking rod angles are two things.. One being- very light line in pretty tough conditions, against some powerful fish! Rod tip angles should create more pressure on the fish, but also on my light (but expensive) gear :( Myabe this just means I need to trust my tackle a little more LOL
The second problem is rod control gets difficult when you've got clowns casting over your line and other non-responders after you've screamed FISH a half dozen times! I guess I'll just have to live and learn with this problem. Or head to less crowded spot ;)
