I'll be going to Rochester for work on Monday and then heading to Pulaski to fish the SR on Tuesday through Thursday. Is the Oak near Rochester or on the way from there to Pulaski?
I've never fished it and thought I might give it a try on my way to Pulaski. Is it worth it? Can anyone give me some info on where to park, enter the river, or where it is?
I'll look at a map too but any info you guys can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
nj

I have fished the Oak Orchard many times...However, it is about 30-40 minutes West of Rochester. The Salmon River is about an hour and a half East of Rochester...
I have had some good times on the Oak. However, this time of year it is very very busy and it is not that big of a creek...I like to fish it December, January, Feb, Etc...
In my opinon, I would just go to the Salmon and you will enjoy much more room and a better chance at more fish...
the oak is not on the way from roc to pulaski if you ar going from roc probubly i would take 104west to go past rt98 turn rt on gaines rd to park rd from there find the dam you can park at the dam or contine down river a little ways and there is some limited rd side parking

I live about 30 minutes from the OAk and I would second live2fish, go straight to the SR. The Oak will be very very busy and it is no comparision to the SR.

The Oak is actually West of Rochester, about 35 miles. So I guess you can say its half way to Buffalo. So its not on the way to Pulaski. The Oak will be a mad house right now if the salmon are running good. But you might hit it good during a weekday. You might want to consider hitting the Oswego River on the way to Pulaski. Its on your way and the fishing should be good if not better than the Oak right now.

You dont have to fish at the dam at the oak,, during mid week you should be ok below the dam, tribs around the oak rock too. the Big O is not far east. if your around rochester you got the genny, oak, and alot of tribs if you look on a map and take a ride to explore a little.
