how long can these fish hold out.
every time i log on to the site i'm expecting
to see lots of pics of salmon.and reports saying that
you can walk across fish.i just wonder if its
going to be one big run this year.by the sound of it,
the fish are all gathering in shallow water in the lake
even before they gather in the estuary.

The estuary around the rte 3 bridge is PACKED! Just took a ride to my boat below rte 3 and saw 2-3 splashing above the bridge at a time. Plenty of fish along the shoreline from the Salmon River mouth 2-3 miles north in 8-12' of water.
My brother trolled from the SR to Sandie Island beach and had a limit by 8:30-
When they decide to go it's going to be insane!

If we all knew that then I think it would take away from some of the fun and anticipation. Honestly, I've seen them wait till the end of Sept. before a serious run occurs. One of my First years fishing up there we hit the day after a hurricane on Sept. 17 and could not keep a fish off our lines. The next year there were very little fish in the river at that point and only managed a couple. I still think prime dates 2nd week in Sept. thru 2nd week in Oct. I think the majority of the fish run the river between this 4 week period. But that is just my opinion.

My experience is that they load up in the estuary some might run but they usually hold until so many fish come in that they are forced up river. Then the estuary fills again the next day, then they get pushed up again. Its an ongoing cycle. Thats when you see reports from the DSR being hot one day, slow the next, then hot again. Again- Just my opinion.

I honestly think that you are going to Slay them!!! You are going to need some ice packs to ice down your sore shoulders after all those Kings get done with you. I'll wish you good luck but you won't need it.

I'm going to hit the Oak this weekend, I'll let you know. I'm sure I will keep saying "I wish I'd went to the SR!!!". Has anyone heard anything about the Genny? Just wondering?

I stopped by Burt Dam yesterday, and also tried my hand at the Oak. Save your time. Me and my buddies didn't see anything except for tons of streambed seaweed...

genny has been running high- they had alot of rain from ernesto-
I'm sure the fish are moving in there as we speak-
I've also been hearing reports of fish around the dam in Oswego-
As for the Oak I'd keep an eye on this site-

The genny is high and dirty. Early September can be tough due to the summer silt build up that keeps the visability low, even when the river comes down. It is also usually at least 5 degrees warmer than the Salmon at this time of year too. Still a week or two before it usually starts fishing well.

Way too early for the Oak, salmon dont really show up until Oct. Some of the seaweed will be gone by then ;)
