Mike....

How far downstream from Northern Adirondack school is that? I've always wanted to try from by the school and work downstream for some browns, they stock a few in there.

Mike: Years ago I used to teach at Chazy. We used to fish the G. Chazy somewhere between Mooers and Ellenburg Depot on one of the small side roads off Rt 11. There were some old aqueduct supports along in there that Miner built at one time. Where I used to like to fish was at a bridge where the river bottom was paved for a ways below a small bridge that led to a farm across the river. There are (or used to be) HUGE browns in that river. Much bigger than one would believe for the size of the water. Had one of my greatest days fishing ever in that stretch. Very prolific fly hatches on that river & tremendous Green Drake hatch. Do you know where I'm talking about?

Champlain: Made a trip up your way last week to visit my daughter and this time I brought along my flyrod. Fished the Saranac from the 2nd bridge (up from the mouth) downstream to the trestle. Only takers were a couple of small bass. Relocated to below the trestle after a bit & while I was fishing I noticed a pontoon boat in the river down near the mouth. It didn't look like a normal pontoon boat as it had 2 20 ft poles sticking up on one side of it and a small derrick sort of thing sticking off the bow. It was moving slowly back & forth across the stream & upstream too, so I kept getting a better look at it. It turned out to be the DEC and they were about to commense fish shocking. I was going to tell them that they didn't need to go upstream anymore that I had fished there & there weren't any fish! :-) Unfortunately I couldn't stick around to see what they turned up. I did speak with a fellow on the bank who was watching them and he said that in a couple of weeks the salmon run would begin in earnest & you would see them porposing out in the river. Said he usually fishes upstream where there aren't so many people during the run. That sounded like a good idea to me, so I will keep that in mind on future trips. If I am going to travel to fish for salmon that time of year though, it will be to the SR.

the other spot eagle i think is the bridge right before the 4 corner in mooers if you take a left after the bridge off of rt 22 you go to malone. that's a great spot their in the spring. big browns

Craig - DEC usually does the elctro fishing in the spring. They may have been checking out to see if any salmon were starting to hold in the mouth area. Also to see if there were any yearling salmon in there also. They are working hard to evaluate the lamprey program. The lake temp is still around 60 degrees so it is a bit early for the fall spawners yet, it will be at least another couple of weeks unless the temps drop off drasticly and there is a cold rain with it. The fish don't hold long by the mouth area in the fall because that section gets fished hard.

Mike- Thanks, figured that was the area you were at.
