It's been 7 years since I have fished the SR after enlisting on active duty and was wondering if spiderwire/fireline was acceptable to use. Is this now the norm, or is mono the appropriate/prefered line?? Until now I have been on the west coast and it seemed to cause more arguments than antthing so I gave it up.
I'll be fishing from Mon-Sat this next week, and will post daily if I can. Can't hardly wait!! :woohoo:

...yeah, go to the Ande in green or Maxima Floro in 10, 12 or 15 lb. It will cast a lot smoother like the guys said.
As for etiquette, just fish for 'em and you won't have any problems with anyone. Good luck and welcome back!!!
...guessing that you would still have a mono leader??? Problem with spiderwire would be when the spiderwire catches the bottom. Even with a mono leader sometimes your main line will get hung up. It will be awful hard to break off.
What was the argument out west?

I tried it a couple years ago, was awful, seemed to snag everyother cast (main line, not leader) and was very hard to get out/break off. Also seemed to tangle alot (could have been me). I like 15lb Maxima on the reel with a 10lb leader for salmon.

The general argument was that in the event that I broke the main-line others would also catch it sooner or later and have to cut their line from it. Thanks for the replies I guess mono it is............

I used to use spider wire with a 10 lb mono leader. Would only break at the leader therefore less mono going into the system when break offs occured. Since I only use my fly gear now, I have maxima flouro, 12 lb for leader and maybe 10 or 8 for tippett. Spiderwire does tangle alot, and is a general P.I.T.A. for salmon fishing due to that fact. Just my $.02

I had spiderwire mono on my penn... and was going to use it, but once I saw how much memory it had and it wanted to jump off the reel.. and when I was tying a knot the line stayed all weird and wrinkled.. I took it off put it back on the spool and back in the box and will save it for bluefishing.. I switched to a reg. 14lb. mono..with seagaur leader.
But who knows I don't know Sh*t !!!!

I have run with Fireline for 2 seasons and until started pinning I friggin love the stuff!!! It floats, it holds up very well, great strength vs dia, no memory with the 12lb and under, and 95% only lose your leader. Just my $.02. Good luck!
