View Full Version : DSR…OPEN Jan-Apr
Tempe

So, I spoke with Connie on Saturday before the fest and apologized for my rant a few weeks back and for my misunderstanding of what I thought was a cost increase. Anyway, she handed me a note, and the first thought that went through my head was, she was revoking my seasons pass :fear: . To my surprise, it stated that the DSR will open Jan-Apr...with some catches.
She said that there will be an extra season pass fee for this time frame, an additional $200 above and beyond the regular seasons pass, which ends on Dec. 31st. If you do not wish to spend the money on a, Let’s call it…Steelhead Seasons Pass, then you may purchase a daily pass, which will be $25, up from the $10 of last year.
One other policy change…if you plan on fishing the DSR during the Jan-Apr time frame, you must call ahead, a day in advance, and “book” the time. I believe this allows her to schedule the appropriate staff necessary.
I am personally pretty happy with this news...the cost increase, and the short regular seasons pass…well, I’ll leave that alone, but at least now if there are no ice issues, and some fair weather is forecasted, I can fish my favorite part of the river with Pinky Tuscadaro under float. :D
Thank you Connie, and I hope that I didn’t mess up this intruptation. :o :p :worthy:

I know theres nice water down there, fresh fish but $25.00 a day:eek: ,Fish that are stocked by our license revenues...Must be nice to have lots of land and charge people to fish your property that the state stocks:confused: , I wonder how much of that Cash Payment of $25.00 do they claim on there taxes...And to be watched like a hawk looking for a field mouse,,Heaven for bid if your set your hook to hard on a fish:bump: ,Your busted..lol..I'll save my $$$ and fish above the almighty....>))>

...can't say any more on the $$$ issue there, but to each his own. I'm thankful we don't have to pay to fish the entire river.
On the hookset thing...man, I thought Salmonfan was a gonner when he was working a nice run with a salmon in it and a few feet before the fly reached the intended fish...WHACK!!! Here comes this 9" fall fish sailing like 6 ft in the air that hit the fly before it reached the big boy!!! Man SF shows no mercy on the hookset with them LOL :woohoo: ...I thought for sure he was going to get the "boot" !!! LOLROTF!!! Man...now that was worth the price of admission!!!
jezzz, here we go again, same whine.
i paid my $275.00 and will pony up another 2 bills for the spring.
it was my choice and no one twisted my arm.
i'm grateful this was offered and not closed completely.
note the word CHOICE !!!!!!!!!!
if you don't like it , don't fish it.........simple.

Come on now............ does a tiny chub (more like 6 inches) stand a chance against that cannon? Gimme some slack here, all I had to do was pull a little and it became a rocket :bolt: Besides, it's not like I expected the little booger to do the Evel Kenievel thing like that  And any day fishing with me is worth the price of admission - where else can you find comedy and tragedy all wrapped up in one warped package like me?

You can float through it all you want... but if you drop an anchor or cast a line you can get fined for tresspassing. I looked into that years ago.

Sometimes it takes more than a few whacks with a shovel to finish off a dying horse....
Thanks for the info Tempe:)
No comment. I would rather not say anything negative to help out the site. Out!

...I felt exactly the same way for well over 20-years...why spend the $$$ to get to water and fish??? Well, as put so clearly by "The Waterboy"...
ITS COLD....ITS CLEAN (for NY at least)...and I believe JStreamside brought back about a gallon in his right leaky boot foot on Saturday!!!...
NOW THATS SOME HIGH QUALITY H2O!!!!
Truth be known I put up the $$$ last year to go (for the first time) with some SC boys and had a freakin' blast!!! I won't do it day after day, but its a great change of pace during the season. And its a simple choice...like I said before, be thankful the rest of the private property on the river isn't pay to fish or we might all be fighting over that "puddle" in someone's back yard.

I look at it as a parking fee. I don't need to go there often, just once in a while. There are too many other good spots to go to.

It started as a post by Tempe to inform people that DSR will be open after Dec 31.Once AGAIN it's turned into a like it or not, right or wrong, blah blah blah.It does get old 5 or 6 times a yr.I still don't see the problem with being watched while you "fish?"

I wasn't trying to thump anyone. MONEY AINT CHEAP! The way I figure this year more than ever, this website and reports are more valuable than ever. Namely because of the price of fuel and every other thing that has gone up due to fuel prices. Trips will definately be limited. Thanks to Tempe I now have a heads up on the DSR. I've been a season pass holder and always enjoyed the fact that I fished enough to recoup the money I laid out for the pass and then some (from sept- april for 250 rather than paying for each day). Now with with the price almost doubling for the season I'm feeling the crunch.

Look at it this way. How much does it cost to play a round of golf? or for a days lift ticket at a ski resort?

By BIGSKYJD---->MONEY AINT CHEAP!
That's a riot!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!!
My two cents...or $25. I hit the DSR for the first time last year as a "well let's see what it's all about". I had a great time and saw a lot of prime water. Like someone else mentioned it's a great alternative or change up during the season if you're willing to pay to fish. Don't bother arguing the right to charge, it's already been argued in the courts. The horse is dead.
EC - I think what they were trying to tell you is it has been deemed illegal for a drift boat to "stop or anchor" in the DSR since the property is owned on both sides by a single party. Therefore the river bottom is also private property. At least that's the way I've heard it. Guides on this site might be able to clarify. So unless you're going to fish while the boat is drifting down river it's going to be tough. But good luck!!:)

I used to fish the DSR exclusively but this year might hit it once or twice. Im trying to get to learn the rest of the river. I dont mind being watched when I fish there. Ive had the guys give me heads up on fishing movements downstream when they get on their radios with their cohorts. They have always been very helpful.
