I just returned from the Gaspe QC from a little Fishing and Instructing at a Orvis Endorsed Spey Casting School at Malbaie River Outfitters (http://http://www.malbaieriveroutfitters.com/). There were a total of 10 people in the class all intermediate casters from as far away as BC and there were 3 teachers, Myself, Jim Rusher and CD Clarke (http://www.cdclarke.com) who is an awesome water color painter, his work is used in Grays and a lot of fishing magazines. I got to see all the World Famous Atlantic Salmon Rivers, York River, St Jean and the Dartmouth River along with Moose walking down the trail with us, Whale's in the Ocean and I will let the pictures say the rest.

Day one was all day casting and instructions, Here's Jim leading the class.

The following 5 days they fished with a Guide and we jumped from pool to pool and river to river with the class to fine tune them.

Here is the York River Sector 4, There were 16 Atlantics here and Some over 30 lbs.

Carved out river bottom, the water depth over the rock is about 4 feet and looks like about 4 inches.

Here's John with one of a few he landed during the week, this one is about 20lbs and checkout the Sea lice still on it.

I had the pleasure of fishing with the Arch Bishop of Atlantic Salmon Guides, Austin Clarke. Austin recently had a article about him in Forbes magazine and has been guiding for Atlantics on the Gaspe for 42 years.

BTW, Did you fish at all and did you land any? How difficult are these fish to catch compared to Steelhead?

That's sweet a trip Paul. Great pics!!

What types of flies were you using while fishing?

Can't wait to get the long rod out. Hopefully sometime next month on the salmon.

All the guys in the class where using traditional Atlantic patterns in sizes 6-10 with 15lb tippet. A White Muddler in a size 4 was also getting a lot of fish to rise. I will post some more pics over the next few days.
