Fresh run salmon that are unpressured are very keen on big bright flies. As they move up the trib and get pressured from anglers the more natural your presentation the better your chances of hooking up are. Fresh eggs are also a good choice for unpressured fish.

Most of my Salmon fishing has been in Michigan,with a few trips to the Oak,in years gone by,but a trip to the Pierre Marquette & St Mary's,has rekindeld my
Salmon Urge,to help satisfy my Steel Urge,I plan on exploring some more of the fine NY waters this year,my last NY King was on the Oswego,about 10 years ago,wil Steelhead fishing. has any body ever tryed shrimp/prawn ?

I got a lota of Bunny Leeches,and egg patterns,and a few ET Stones, in various colors from last years adventure,in Michigan

Salmon skein under a float works. Caught a few last year doing it.

Just wrap some estaz around a hook a couple of times in likely colors: pink, chartruse, blue, red, rootbeer, etc and maybe add a small tail. Very quick and easy to tie and they work like champs.

I have to second what JeffL just stated. My killer pattern last season was an estaz pattern I through together in various colors with a large matching or white hackle to represent milting.

I agree with Goat. BIG:D gobs of skeined eggs under a float. Fish the edges of fast deep water. 14# main with a 10# or 12# leader depending on clarity.

there is a rumor that is a kind of a medicication for Salmon............aka Salmon Candy ?

I have to agree with the majority here. Estaz works awesome and the flies are so simple to tie. Bright colors work good, but I've had the best luck with dark colored flies(black, forrest green, root beer, etc.). Also, dark blue with some red tied in at the head.. Mix it up, they're too simple a tie to just stay with the ordinary!
