I have been catching alot of carp lately out of the Susquehanna, and they always hit on night crawlers. Nothing over 3-4lbs. But I see alot of huge ones swimming around. I know some of you guys fish for carp and have certains baits you use. Any suggestions, they are fun to catch?!
Thanks.....

I always do well on sweet stuff. Try corn drain out the juice and put some honey in a zipperlock bag. I fish the canal in watkins glen. We been doing welll. Since the last couple weeks the smallest fish we landed was 15lbs. I have pic on 35mm one close to 30-35lbs but I don't know how to post the pic. We use 8lb test. The fish we hook are pretty big. If your in the area let me know. The lessons are free. :D

Theres more to be had on crawlers. Try right across the street from the mall at the dam at night. theres a flat rock at the base of the dam, just put half a worm on a jig head and pitch it. You'll catch BIG carp (I've seen 40lb'ers) not to mention the occasional big walleye.. A buddy of mine landed a 10+ pounder on 4lb test a few years ago.

In Jersey we use just plain old wonder bread. When I was a kid all we caught was carp. They averaged 10 to 20 pounds all with a loaf of wonder. We would get a loaf and fish all day and catch 10 to 15 a day on 8# test:woohoo:

really ive seen a 25 pound carp swimming in a resevoir in my area and want to fish for them. At another lake there are fish that are like a bright orange and i dont know if there carp or gold fish and always tried corn and dough and they wont touch it. The 25 pounder i saw was a light brown and i knew that was a carp but didnt try for him. What tackle should i use to catch them should i use split shots or anything? There bottom feeders right?

Chum them in with some sweet corn and try fishing a doughball, corn or some of the strawberry flavored premade baits you can buy at dicks or wall mart. Cant remember who makes them but they are usually by the bags of catfish bait chunks you can buy. Toss out a few handfuls of corn for chum but try and keep the corn all in the same small area if you can, then drop your bait right in the middle. I try to keep my chum in an area no bigger than3' by 3' or so if possible, best you can throwing handfuls out anyway. Then i use my noodle rods with an egg sinker and 4lb leader so they dont feel the weight. Big carp are smarter than most people think.

Hey guys, when you are using doughballs and corn, how are you keeping it on the hook?

when you use corn just thread it on your hook. You may want to try putting the corn on different ways. One way with the kenerals flat and the other put the kenerals on the long way. It may sound funny but, just like steelies they will tell you what they want. have fun :D

I have always had good luck with the corn chum and dough balls made with corn meal, strawberry jello and a little corn syrup/water for consistency.
Works well in the Delaware River but not as well as my BOW. I have been shooting some 30 pounders within the last week I,ll try to post some pics if I get out again.

When bowfishing for carp, what do you do with the dead carp...?

That is where I do the majority of my fishing these days. On a good night my buddy and I have had 10-12 'eyes, but the carp we catch aren't huge. Also have caught quite a few BIG browns there. 2 weeks back I foul hooked a ~5 lber, as soon as I saw it was a brown, I couldn't believe it, then I saw the jig head was in its' side. I didn't even take it out of the water, just unsnagged it and off he went FAST.
I have alot of luck on 1/2 crawlers threaded up 1/4oz. jig heads. But I want to fish for carp exclusively...:woohoo:

They get ground up for chum and fertilizer. I also have a freind that takes a few and makes some kind off fish cakes (Jewish thing).
