There has been a couple tragedies on the Ausable river around my area in the past 3 days. We have been getting hammered with rain and the river is flowing really good. One of them involved 3 guys in blow up rafts that all got tipped over when going down through a fast moving chute into a big pool. 2 of the guys were able to make it out but the other was not so lucky. The rescue personal have been working for 3 days now to recover this poor fellows body and were still at the scene when I came into work tonight. I have fished this spot before and it is an extremely deep pool and it has a severe back swirling current in high water.

The other involved 3 guys in kayak's up around the Lake Placid area. They were traveling through a fast water section and flipped over, 2 made it to a small island and the last I knew they were still looking for the other guy.

Just thought I would share this to remind everyone that a good time can go bad in an instance. Those of you who par-take in these kinds of activaties be smart, be safe and most of all wear a life jacket and a helmet. I don't believe any of the guys in these tragedies were wearing life jackets.

They still had not recovered the body of the man in the first paragraph of my orginal post as of 6pm today. Had the road blocked off again on my way home from work this morning and on the way in tonight. Have to give the rescue personal a big pat on the back for thier efforts. :worthy: They spent most of the day and night the first day of this and have been on the scene 16 hrs per day for the last 3 days.
