Don't expect much. Mostly chubs, a few bass and if you're really lucky,
you may still have a crack at the one steelie left. LOL Water level is
at 185cfs. But, the nights have been very cool....... hmmmmmm......

heard of decent atlantic population in the upper end, (church pool and up) all summer, most no bigger than 15". Second hand info from someone who lives there. good luck.

Last friday we plugged fished from Pineville to the Ball Park in a few spots and landed 3 Steelies had 4 or 5 other ones on but Cray was doing a Jimmy Houston hook set on them and needless to say they didn't stay attached long. We landed a few 2-3 lb bass too. All the fish were from the Ace to the Sportsmans..

I don't think he'll bite again after nearly having his face ripped off by Craydaddy Houston... :fear:

I have always found that the summer months (including late spring) can be fun on the river.

There are generally no other people. You can fish most of the public water (except the lower fly zone). There are lots of smolts (some up to 12 inches), rainbows and browns in the 10-14 inch range, small mouth bass and. . . once I went up and there were beautiful land locked salmon (Atlantics) between 14 and 24 inches spread throughout the upper fly zone.

The fish tend to be aggressive toward large, skating, dry flies (bombers, large caddis, stimulators) as well as woolly buggers and muddler minnows.

Lots of fun on a 4 wt or other form of light tackle.

I forgot to add, there are some great evening hatches on the river during the late spring/early summer months.

I was up a few weeks back and we hit some browns and steelies. All at 185. So the browns are still there right?!

They could be but I doubt it. If they are look in fast water or deep cool holes. You can also be surprised by a Skamania or 2. :)

Anyone hear of any Skamies coming in yet?

Oh yea if you want to have a blast go to the wires in the evening with dry flies!! The baby Atlantics and Steelies are NUTS!! It is a blast! remember to pinch your barb down!!
