Where are you going on the Cape? What boat are you going on? Myself or Ditch may be able to make a few suggestions that might help make your trip a success. I lived on the Cape and fished commercially for years for all sorts of fish including cod.

You ever fish pine creek from blackwell north into the canyon? if so let me know i know that water like the back of my hand, i sure with i knew the salmon river like that,,, but i work for forestry and we control that whole area beautiful, free camping, you can just take a bike or hike the canyon and fish till ya die.. great mayfly hatches and one hell of a brown and green drake hatch just before memorial day. myself im a hard core nymph guy,, i never go wrong with that, and with the water last year there are tons of holdovers.

No, but I would like to.

My dad is a member of a hunt club just down the road from Wolfes, so I have a good grasp from Petticote Junction down to about the Gibson Hotel. Not very familiar with the water above Peticote.

My Dad started taking me up back in the early eighties when I was about 7 yrs old(turn 30 this April). I only get up that way once or twice year now, but I love it. More than love it, my soul always feels at peace on the Pine. Lots of great memories.

Maybe we could meet up in May sometime and do little fishing. Not sure of the dates yet though.

Well now...there's a name I haven't heard in a while. I used to fish out of Green Harbor for tuna. Ralph and his son Michael have quite the reputation up there. Ralph spots with his plane (at least he used to) and guides Michael in on the fish to stick them with a harpoon. I didn't know Ralph was chartering for cod. These guys should be good. Michael at least has done nothing but fish for a living, as far as I know. They know the area, and it is a good one for cod, like the back of their hands. There is nothing I could tell you that they don't already know. I haven't seen the Michael Kevin in a couple of years. If it is the same boat, it is about a 35 foot Duffy with a tuna tower that looks like it would make your nose bleed from the height. It may not look like much anymore due to a lot of extreme commercial use (many, many miles under it's keel) but it is a sea worthy hull that has been through almost anything the north atlantic could dish out. Have a good trip, they should be able to put you into some really nice fish.

I am heading out for cod in eary June out of Rhode Island fishing with the Francis fleet. Wish I could be more help but all I know is I get on the boat and we drink, eat and sleep till we get there than jig the bottom. I jig, drink, occasionally puke from seasickness than go back to jigging and drinking. I'd guess you will be jigging in 100-300 feet so myonly advise would be to see if you can purchase the jigs beforehand, can be expensive on the boat.

Good point on the cost of jigs on the boat...at least for the Francis fleet. The Michael Kevin is being run as a true charter boat from the sounds of it and they should supply all jigs, bait, sinkers hooks, rods, reels etc. However, I don't know wht their deal is and I highly reccomend finding out well in advance so you know exactly what to take with you. Kepp in mind that the Michael Kevin is a commercial tuna boat chartering for cod in the off season. They should have plenty of stuff to go around but I would still check. The Gail Francis on the other hand (along with the rest of Frank Blounts fleet) is a "head" boat that will carry up to about 60 people unlike the Michael Kevin which is probably licensed to carry up to 6 passengers. Everything on the Francis boats is for sale, including food and they only supply you with 1 hook, 1 sinker and bait, after that, you have to pay for sinkers and hooks. If you need a rod, they will rent one to you for the day. That's not to say the Francis deal is any less of a good time, I took about 18 tuna to about 100 pounds off the Gail Francis on a 24 hour trip once and had a blast. Jeff, are you doing an extended trip or a day trip?

Fish, I believe they are part of the Bigfish circle ,you should knock em dead in stellwagon bank. The best of luck to you, I have been cod fishing 30 years and I never get sick of it,

Baldie,

The Bigfish group of boats belong to Tom DePersia (sp?). There is no connection between him and Ralph Pratt that I have ever been aware of. For that matter, DePersia is not liked all that much by a lot of people up there. He does catch fish though. I saw him get the only bite on a giant tuna one day out of over 100 boats in the fleet.
