2/15 Wednesday Your Updated S.R. Ramblings:
It brings me great sadness but only the fondest of memories to have recently read that an old friend and N.Y. State Outdoors freelance writer, Scott Sampson, passed away suddenly on Dec. 20. He will be missed by many of us. Scott will always hold a special place in my memories as he was one of the first and biggest contributor's to helping me (even to this day) to achieve success in this business. His fondness for the great outdoors and writing about it made it possible for all of us to get to know each other better along with the species of fish we love to fish for. Many of his writing's appeared in the N.Y. Sportsman's magazine as well as many others.

It was always a pleasant and fun day when we would get together to fish. Lots of laugh's, a few questions for his next article, maybe a picture or two and some mighty nice Steelhead, reminded us both why we enjoyed our work so much.

Laying on my desk in front of me has been and well continue to be a gift Scott gave me as a way of saying Thanks for the fishing trip we had done, many years ago. It's a 25th anniversary knife that was given to him in commemorating the long history of the New York State Outdoor Writer's Association. It's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that is used when needed and is as sharp as the day he gave it to me. It will remain on my desk in memory and continue to be used in the business that he cherished and enjoyed so much.

In fondest memories,
Randy Jones

Sorry to hear about the loss of your fishing friend. Sounds like you have many memories of your trips with him that will live on with you and thats what matters now that he has gone to the big river in the sky where he can fish forever.
