In one of these little streams I have near me, their are some PERFECT holes, almost too perfect. Has anyone ever done/ever heard of anybody moving logs etc. to form places that hold fish. Some of these spots are just a little too nice.

Don't know about your stream but TU has done improvement on streams around here. Mostly rip rap and rock rolling. You need a state permit to alter trout water in NY.

yep i've been envolved with a couple projects to improve streams for trout and even did one on wolf creek in western pa for the smallmouth fihery there. it does make for great fishing when you make the holes the way you want them ;) but you do have to have permits:cool:

I was hoping someone would mention permits, or else everyone will be setting up homes for HOGS, then rippin' them out.

I heard from some people (hearsay) that during the summer months alot of guides make pockets in the salmon river when the water use to really drop. then they knew right were to anchor and knew fish would be holding in thouse sports tailor made for them, made sence to me but i havent a clue..

That has to my personal knowledge happened. The time was the 80s, the place what is now DSR, the guides name confidential. It worked.

Like stackmend said, TU does a lot of this type of work. It's done for several reasons. One reason is to create natural habitate for fish to encourage natural reproduction. Another reason, and this is done in conjuction with DEP and PA Fish, is to help reduce flooding during high water conditions.
