Absolutely!! I'm with ya on Jr. But.....my favorite was DW, now it's brother Mike. Funniest guy on the circuit. Glad DW retired. He is hilarious in the booth. Can't wait for Sunday.

I was wondering if anyone was going to ask this question! Bobby Labonte is my favorite. Haven't had much to cheer about over the past few years, but hopefully his qualifying effort is a sign of things to come. With the addition of Loomis and Parrot, maybe he can bring back some luster to Petty Enterprise. Just heard on the radio that the #48 teams time was dq'd and Knaus will be watching the 500 from the grandstands!!! I believe this is the second time he got caught cheating!!!

Mark Martin all the way, I was watching speed last night Chad Knaus was ejected from daytona for cheating, altering the car post inspection, with farther penalties to follow

Salmonfan

Knaus and Johnson have been cheating for a LONG time, they're finally getting what they deserve. Here's to hoping Dale Jr. has a great season, and Mikey finally wins on a non-plate track!! Just wish he was still with DEI, that would be great, Jr., Mickey and Truex would be awesome freight-training to the front!!!!

And I agree, watch for Denny - the kids got skills

I believe you'll see the Jr. and Jr. show this Sunday!! Something about those DEI cars and restrictor plate tracks.

I just hope Tony Stewart was wrong. I don't want to see anyone else get killed at Daytona (or any other track for that matter). These guys gotta settle down, at least a little, or someone WILL die. Just my opinion.

02-14-2006, 12:57 PM
I find Nascar to be long and boring. 500 mile races and 480 miles of hotlaps and freight training. I will watch the Daytona for the hype, and maybe a night race at bristol. I am a huge race fan, but I enjoy short track local racing. Supermodifieds, sprint cars and Dirt Modifieds. These races are typically 50 laps and everyone is racing hard all the time!

woolybugger65
02-14-2006, 01:09 PM
i used to be a big fan. i've been to daytona, pocono, and dover 9 times. it was my life for most of my 20's.
then kids came along and found other things to do. i also realized how boring most races are to watch on tv. except for daytona, talladega, and bristol, everything else results in my best sunday afternoon naps if i try to watch em.
with the death of earnhardt and the watering down of talent it has become boring. no one can tell me that a driver, who races one year at the bush level, finishes third in the point standings, deserves to get a full ride in the winston cup/nextel/whatever series while drivers like jeff burton scramble for a part time ride.
all of this is just my 2 cents

I agree with you Salmonfan, all this bump drafting needs to settle down. It's one thing to do it on the straight aways, but not in the corners. That's how someone gets hurt or killed. It's one thing to get a bump from a veteran driver, but when you have rookies or guys with little experience with drafting bumping you, I'm sure it's a little nerve racking. I can see why Tony was upset. If it was an Earnhardt, Shcrader, or Wallace behind him, I don't think he would of been so upset. Or, if the race actually meant something!!

Big fan of racing!! I used to like the J.Burton when he drove the #99 and Kurt Busch but now they don't run fords anymore baffles me why Rousch get rid of both of them. But I'm growing to like the edwards kid who drives the # 99 for him.I'd keep an eye on him on sunday and very happy to see Burton on the pole for the big race.As for # 8 he doesn't impress me much he just has his daddy's last name thats all.:fear:
But I expect to see half the field reduced to a junk yard when they have the big one, with all the bump drafting and freight traing ...I watched the the bud shoot out and that was wild can't imagine what sunday will bring

Salmonfan

Roush didn't get rid of Busch, the little ba$turd abandoned ship. Never thought much of him. Carl Edwards, on the other hand can drive a car and he's a nice guy to boot, but I've liked Jr. since his bush days. And it's got nothing to do with his last name..............

    I'll try to ignore that statement, seeing that Bobby is my driver!! Actually, he hit a career low about two years ago and has been in a funk ever since. I'm hoping the move to Petty Enterprise will give both Bobby and P.E. a boost. They've surrounded Labonte with some pretty good talent(Todd Parrot and Robby Loomis), so it seems like they are dedicated to being succeful. Over at JG Racing, it seemed like everything went to the #20 team. I'm a fan of Stewart, but teams should be equal, and they weren't.

No offense taken WB! All in good fun, that's why I love this site!! My only fear is Bobby falling into the same realm as Jeff Burton. Both were very promising drivers, had a few good years, then just fell off the charts. Hopefully the change will boost Bobby's confidence.

I don't go to the mods much. Every now and then I get an invite to enjoy a night of racing from the hospitality booth. I don't mix well with shirtless, BO-laden Bubba's spilling beer all over me. I live about 12 miles from the speedway and when the wind is right, I can hear the roar. Makes me long for the days when I had this smokin' "68 camaro that always seemed to go through tires......;)

What he said!. I grew up 3 city blocks from Oswego Speedway. Nothing beats 900 HP race cars with a 90" wheel base running on methenol. These cars are faster and more exciting than any nascar race.

They might have 900hp ,,but their sure not faster than nascar,,Daytona speeds are 190-194 in the draft, California their over 200, Alanta speedway their at 195-200, small tracks like Richmond they avg. 95 on the straightaway around 140, Bristol is the fastest 5/8 short track the avg. is around 123.

I used to go to dirt tracks and watch the sportsman class and modifies, plus the sprints and world of outlaws,,different speeds for different folks....>))>

Outlaws are great too. They will make your neck hair stand up!

goat ball
02-16-2006, 02:39 PM
Yea I will agree the top end speeds are faster on the big tracks. Supers and sprints run in one gear. They would never last more than 2 laps on a superspeedway. However, a supermodified would lap the fastest Nascar cup car on any track under a mile. Bristol is a 1/2 mile not 5/8ths. They put dirt on it in the summer for special Outlaw shows. The outlaws actually go faster than the cup cars. Also, the fastest half mile track is Eldora Speedway http://www.eldoraspeedway.com/home.html. This is a dirt track in Ohio (actually owned and runned by Tony Stewart) The sprints approach 140mpm on this track turning lap times in the 12 second range. The fastest 5/8ths is Oswego Speedway. Supers with wings will run below 15 seconds and speeds in excess of 150mph.

I love Nascar, but heres what I dont understand. The whole point is to create the fastest car and cross the finish line first. Why does Nascar penalize teams and drivers for trying to get a competitive edge? It just doesnt make much sense to suspend crew chiefs because they found a way to make the car faster. Why doesnt Nascar just supply the cars to each team if they want everyone to drive with the same setup

Salmonfan
02-16-2006, 09:35 PM
Yeah, but there are still rules and when one team violates them action must be taken. It's supposed to be competitive, but also fair so that all teams are functioning under a set of rules governing just what they can do. Otherwise ya might just as well skip having NASCAR put up $$ to the winner and just forget the whole thing.

It ain't only about speed, its racing. Watching 30 cars stay in line playing 180mph follow the leader for 450 miles is just not as exciting as when the driver knows he has only 30 laps to get the lead and there are 20 cars thinking that same thing. Gotta go, gotta go NOW, and once I get in front cain't let noone past me.

there was study done last year on drivers, and it found that they are generally in really good shape, its usually about 120-130 degrees in the car, they have to contend with almost constant g forces at some tracks and there heart rate was if I remenber right about 120 beats per min for the whole race, they were compaired to marthon runners. If you follow the sport one some channel they were taking "athletes" for rides, almost every one got ot of the car and said they had no idea that the physical pressures put on them in a few laps

I agree that watching it on television is as much fun as watching paint dry... But to watch it live you can really tell how fast they are going... two inches apart... They are literally a blur when they reach their top speeds and they create a pretty strong wind when they blow by... I don't know what the definition of an athlete is, but I know I could never do it. If you're not a race fan, why bother with a thread for race fans? I mean if you don't like it, thats cool, but to rip someone else for there individual enjoyment is kind of low. Some people don't like fishing (why, I don't know - who wouldn't like tyin' into 20 plus pounds of frieght trainin' salmonid screamin upstream:fear: ), but you don't see tem coming on here and rippin', so why can't we all just dig what we dig and let it be what it is instead of stereotypes and all that? With all the individuals we have here, there are bound to be differences of opinion, but we all love fishing so can't we all just play nice?
