Welp tis the season, instead of taking a snowbelt trip me and a buddy are trying to figure out when we are gonna take our yearly freeze our arse off days to the oak, i get laid off next week and we started doing this two years ago, And we havent had a bad trip yet just slow rolling fresh egg sacks, im hoping we get just a little bit of a warm spell to get some stain to the water, but it doesnt matter to me, last january 22-24 landed 6 steelies and 4 browns, and others on,, was tuff fishing cuz the wether was a hight of 6 degrees. but still beat staying home,, if i can figure out how to post pics ill post some of that trip from last year,,

fishjunkie, what area of the Oak do you fish? Archer's Club area or more up stream towards the dam? Good luck when you go.........Keith

last year we hit the oak over christmas and killed the steel and browns on wax worms. the fish didnt want anything to do with flys or eggs.

The Oak can be killer that time of the year. I am hoping to get out a time or 2 in January and Febuary!!!

if the lower water isnt frozen i fish there really slow with egg sacks,, the i fish up near the archers club, but i prefer slower water that time of year, ill post some pics, thats for sure i look at them and get pumped again, i never really fished wax worms or spikes with confidence,, but i have to give it a shot, i usually use my own fresh eggs and fish really slow, or if im in current i fish a slow swing,, usually works for me.

I am thinking about taking a day trip out there and check things out...

I know, I know, I hate the Joke Orchard, but on a cold January day it should be a different scene..

I have been going there for a few years now during the nice days of january and february, its not uncommon infact its very common to have just about any hole to yourself, only a few people come for an hour or two at the dam/overflow if any water, and the next whole down, other then that, it was all mine and my buddies, the few fishermen out where class a guys, willing to freeze like us, and shoot the bull,

I'll be out on the oak in mid January with a few buddies too. Maybe we should set up a oak crazy meet. (lol)

I know you have documented your disdain for the Oak Gman, you going in the middle of winter when all the salmon slayers and fairweather trout fishermen are home might sway you a little. I think you wont be dissapointed this trip.

we tried fresh eggs and the fish didnt want any part of them. ranger had a pack of waxies so we gave it a go.we ended up running to narbys bait two times a day untill she was sold out of waxies.
