Does anyone use sink tips? I am buying an 8 WT and need a line for it to fish the tribs.

Given room to work I use them but more often than not I fish a floater with some shot to get the depth I am trying to achive.

It's hard to get enough room with a single handed rod, but in certain situations the Teeny short heads work well. You can also build a short head with a coil of Rio T-14. Sinking poly leaders also have their place. All of the above options inheritly cast like crap, but so does shot. Just a function of a lite line trying to push a heavy head. If you can roll the whole poly leader to the surface a short roll cast will work in tight spaces.

I used a sinktip this year for salmon when swinging large streamers. Worked great! I think it works well in that application. If you intend to high-stick, they are pretty useless.

Teeny mini-tips worked extremely well whether we were swinging flies OR high-sticking. The 7 wt mini can be used on rods up to a 9 wt and I had it on my little 5 wt this past season...cast like a dream...especially on my 11 ft 6/7 Fisher. Takes a little bit of practice to cast the sink tip with some shot on the leader when nymphing, but sure worked well in the faster water on the SR.

I can attest to JS's testimony:rolleyes: I tried his setup and was very impressed with how easy it was to put the line out there with very little or no weight at all. Just have to watch out for those surprise strikes when you're just throwing line to see how it works!!!!!:D

My teeny system worked A HELL OF A LOT BETTER on a moderate action rod as opposed to a fast action rod of the same weight. With my fast action rod, my hand felt blistered after the day....with a more moderate action midflex rod, the teeny mini tip casted with very little effort!!!

Just like Jstream & TG said, Swinging or nymphing, it worked very well in the fast water!!! :D

Use airflow polytips, works like a charm. No problems roll casting even the 12ft ones on my 6wt
