In a post on the Fishing Reports, metalslayer mentioned taking rt. 11 up to Pulaski when the weather turns bad. Just wondering what its like traveling that route. I used to take rt 11 south down to Bloomsburg many years ago and it was a lot of stop and go through the towns. Is it the same traveling North? We travel 81N quite a bit in the winter, either for steelhead or ice fishing around Alex. Bay, and have encountered many wild rides during these trips. Just looking for some opinions.

Cuz - I was thinking about asking Metal about this. Timely post.

If I took 11 from the NY border it would take me too long to get there. But I would be interested in a diversion around Syracuse area.

Metal what exits do you suggest getting on/off for a Route 11 bypass around general Syracuse area?

Cuz - normally if I stay on 81 thru syracuse, I always bypass the city and take 481 Dewitt exit (the mileage difference is only 2) and you miss them ice covered bridges + many nitwits in downtown Syr.

Get off exit 30 (Cicero) and turn left. Route 11 is the next major intersection..take a right onto it and you are good. Get off before that and it's heavy stop and go (business districts).

Exactly---it doesn't usually hit the fan b4 Oneida Lake anyway.RT 11 is not too bad from exit 30 on up----just a few small towns/speed zones to go thru.

I am going to scope out that route Saturday morning. Should be nice with the flaming foliage.

I went to Bloomsburg U back in the 90's and route 11 was always a mess. Used to take somewhere around 2 hours to get to Wilkes Barre. Don't know now with the new construction.

GMan, I've taken 481 around the city on a few occasions also. I'll have to look into hitting rt 11 starting in Cicero next time up that way. Those bridges are always interesting during the winter months!
