Thats all anyone can tell you for sure from the pics. Its male and in spawning colors. Could be domestic, could be a steelhead. Looks like alot of breeder rainbows I catch

I would say a dead rainbow by looks of how far he swallowed that hook, just my guess though

hook was removed and fish swam away.only to be fouled hooked another day.

it came from altmar,in the end of april..he said it was a steelhead.

If you hadn't said where it came from...I would have put in my 2-cents as bow also. That buck looks just like the ones we get out of the Finger Lakes tribs in the spring...a dead ringer for one as a matter of fact. Nice pics!!! :cool:

Reminds me of fishing in the Altmar area a couple of winters ago ... my fish was a "rainbow" (probably because it was CR) the one he hooked was a "steelhead" because it jumped (also released itself) ... he told the folks on the other end of the cell phone call that it was at least 15# even though it looked 8-10 to me ... then the dude left ... I suppose he had to report to detox or something ... ;)

I might be going against the grain here but I would stay where it was caught and the way it looks I would say steelhead. Look at the dots on it's back. They do not go below the lat line.

I caught alot of steelhead that look like that. I could be wrong but I would go with your boss. Sorry to go against the grain.
