I havent had much time to check in much lately and I was not sure if I should post this here or not but seeing as though our pic is still on the front page I thought I would give you an update.

Unfortunately Nate has taken a turn for the worse and we are now staying at the Ronald McDonald House while Nate is at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Come to find out that Nate has a disease called NEC (in short) which is a very fast moving and very serious disease for premature babies that attacks the GI tract. We found this out on Monday and Tuesday we were sent to Rochester and on Wednesday Nate had to have surgery. From a surgical stand point the surgery went great and Nate is doing fine. They had to remove some of his intestine and part of his bowel. Although the surgery went well Nate has a very long and hard road ahead of him for a full recovery.

While we were waiting to here about Nate in the O.R. we found out that Lydia has some of the same symptoms as Nate had. They are watching her like a hawk!!! They stopped her feedings and started her on antibiotics just as a percausion. They told us that they are 95% sure that she does not have the disease but just an irratation. Our fingers are crossed!!!

It has now been just over 72 hours (what the doctors said was the hardest to over come) and Nate seems to be doing a good job at fighting off the infection!!! He still has a long way to go but is off to a good start. Lydia is now started back on her feedings and is doing well also.

It is truley unbelievable what CMN and the Ronald McDonald House does for you in your time of need!!! I now know what I am going to do with my change every time I go to McDonalds (and it is a lot)!!!

Sorry for taking up your time, but thank you for your thoughts and prayers!!!!!!

Mike and Delaine and our family

My thoughts and prayers are with your family floatfiisher. And you cant say enough about what the Ronald Mcdonald House does for families in need. My sister had leukemia years ago and the Ronald Mcdonald House foundation gave my parents a place to stay when they were not at the hospital.

Float...our first had to spend 9-days in ICU at Albany Med due to complications after birth and we stayed at the RM House up there. The people are amazing as well as the facilities...they sure make going through a rough time a whole lot easier.

Though our situation was not the same, we can sure relate to it. Rest assured you're not alone and yours are in great hands. Be strong man...we'll light 2 candles at mass tomorrow and say a special prayer for all.

My brother's son was born premature a year and a half ago. It has been a long hard struggle, but Aidan is here and while things are not as easy for him, we are so happy to have him in our family. I would always tell my brother to not think about things as they happen minute to minute in the NICU, because he would not know what problems his son would be dealing with for several years(i.e. speech, vision, learning). NEC is something he did not have to deal with, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Take advantage of any support group the hospital has and ask the doctors if there are parents of former preemie patients who went through the same thing, so you might learn from their experience. I know my brother and sister-in-law benefited from the experience of others.

You are in my families prayers, as you probably know when I was 15 I lost my 12 year old sister to brain cancer and have dedicated my adult life to raising money for Camp Good Days a camp for children with cancer. I am empathetic to your cause and wish you and your family all of gods blessings as you endure this ordeal. Good luck and if you need anything PM me as I have alot of good freinds at Strong.
