I just have two questions I can not to locate on the net that make sence to me.
1) What is the day limit of salmon and does include trout?
2) what is the min and max on leader length in the salmon river?
Thanks for the help.

3 salmon or brown (Combined)
1 steelhead
Posession is only 3 and you can only have one steely. example 1-king, 1-brown, 1-steelhead or 3 kings or 2 kings and a brown ETC.
4 foot leader max from added weight to fly/bait
:D

the limit is 3 combined salmon or trout but only one can be a steelhead and your leader can only be 4ft max. I f you are flyfishing it can be 15ft total with 4 ft tippet

Correction on leaders...you can actually have a leader as long as you want as long as any added weight is no more than 4 feet away from the hook. The advantage to using only 4 feet of leader is if you use florocarbon, it costs less each time you put a new leader on your main line. Also, if you use only 4 feet, it gives you a known point farthest from the hook up to which you can add lead.

I think that's for the kiddie/ripper zones. Haven't read the regs in a couple of years. I only use my pin up there and have never taken a fly rod into those areas. I will check it when I get my new license next week.

In the fly zones. Unlimited in the rest of the river. Flyguy (Loren) told me that yesterday. That sounds like a cool way to fish for them!

Can anyone clarify something for me. Is a barrel swivel considered as weight?
I like to use the gold stren line. It is easier to see where my line is. Would it be legal for me to have a longer maxima leader as long as my split shot is within the 4 ft. rule?

Go with a swivel and 3 feet 11 inches of floro or other leader. The hi-vis won't bother the fish. I use hi-vis on both of my pins with no adverse affect. Technically, a swivel can be considered added weight. Another option would be to tie your leader of any length directly to you main line then add a swivel and 3 feet 11 inches of tippet. Just do not get caught with weight of any kind more than 4 feet from the hook.

A small barrel swivel should not be considered added weight. At least if you are using the small ones...If I am wrong- please - someone let me know. Now if you are using of them Monster Salt Water Swivels, then that may be a different story.
If I may offer a suggestion - you can simply add up to four feet of your maxima line as a tippet to a barrel swivel tied onto your butt section of leader, then leave a tag end hanging off the barrrel swivel to which you can add your split shot. You would definitely be legal, and if you get snagged chances are you will only lose the shot..
Hope this helps you out.

G,
It's a grey zone thing with the swivel, it isn't part of the line and it does have weight. Some DEC will let it pass others may not. It's such a simple thing to get around, I wouldn't chance it. No reason to give them my hard earned gas money.

In most places that have the reg of no weight being added to the line it includes swivels.

Good point Blue,,, I guess technically it weighs something, but some of them are so tiny I would not bother anyone if I were DEC, but then again, I am not DEC...
as long as the swivel and any added weight is 48 inches or less from the hook, we are A. O.K.
I even put a small piece of tape around my fishing rod measured 48 " up from the rod butt to measure the tippet- just to be safe.

The micro swivels I use weigh more than some of the tiny shot I use.

I ran into the gray area last year when I was up. I asked 2 different DEC officers and both gave me a different answer. The same 2 answers I got here. I played it safe and keep the swivel within the 48".

2 dec's and 2 different answers. Sounds like some people on this post know a hell of alot more than most of the law men that write the tickets. I don't think it is a good thing when the laws are interperted differently by 2 people with that kind of power, or is it just me ?

I guess you could argue that point either weigh HA HA! next time I see a gamey,I'm gonna ask & if I get an answer that I like I'm noting name, date & time so if another gives me a hassle I can at least have something to fall back on,I suppose it also can depend on what sort of technique was used while being "observed".Also I am sure that the sportsmans attitude would be considered as a basis on whether to issue citation or a warning.some people will open their mouths before engaging their brains.Me personally,I give them all the respect they deserve(even if they aren't having a good day!)The DEC officers/cops I know are decent folks just trying to do a good job.
