Hi all,

I'm new to the thread. Anyways, I am planning on a trip up to the SR Oct 15-18 and am wondering what to expect (generally for that time of the year). Is there usually any good steelhead and brown fishing or is it still salmon time? Are there any hot patterns for that time of year? Do the fish usually take wet/spey flies on the swing very well or should I stick to dead drifting stone flies and eggs? Does sucker spawn work well up there?

Sorry for the long list of ???'s, but I am fairly new to the SR (only been there once in mid Sept. of last year) and am eager to learn.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard Slate...

Mid October is primetime for Salmon, but there are also browns and steelhead in the river as well. The things you listed work well also..
Egg patterns, real egg sacs, stone flies, wooley buggers, estaz, the list goes on and on... Even them pink worms work well for some folk I know..
Take a look around the site, the fly tying section. There are alot of knowledgeable guys here.

Good luck on the water.
