View Full Version : Help with tackle
I want to come up sometime soon and give the SR a shot. I need help on what type of rods and what to fish them with(bait, #line, amount of lead). I have a G Loomis GL2 that is 8'6" Mag-Med Ex Fast action 10-20lb. I use this on the surf for the blue blitzes and even searobin and fluke. Would this be good? My other rod is a Temple Fork TiCr Sig Series 9' 9wt with an Old Florida Nautilus #10. I'm thinking this one might be a bit heavy, but you guys know better than me. If any of my rods are good, I would appreciate it if anyone can get me started with the types of line and what to fish them with.
Thanks,
Tim

I have a new GL2 9' 8wt. It works great. I have been using running line down to a 12 # Fluoro Tippett, Barrel Swivel then 8# or 10# Fluoro Leader. No problems landing fish. Nice light rod with plenty of backbone when you need it. Nicely balanced with a Right Angle AR8. Up until this new rod I had a 9wt but it will probably stay in the truck for an emergency spare. Even at 750 the past 2 weekends the 8wt worked great. Now at 335 it will be even easier. Enjoy the fight. As far as amount of weight goes, it depends on the amount of current and water you are fishing. I use as little weight as possible. Just enough to tick bottom 3-4 times per drift. If you can't feel bottom add more. If you are constantly hanging up use less. By using the lighter line & rod you should be able to notice the bottom as well as soft bites much better.
