I have seen them used with those little side planner thingys. You can also use them for floatfishing, just put it in free spool and you are good to go.
That reminds me, (I need to put this in the classifieds section) I have a new, 2 years old Shimano calcutta for sale, right hand retrive. Anyone interested???

Crazy,
I have been float fishing with the baitcaster for three years now, and I don't think i will ever be able to swtich back. I have a 9 ft rod with normal guides (I'd prefer they were "wrap around", but oh well). I use mine like most guys use a center pin. Cast it out, tighten the line up to the float, kick it in free spool and let the line pay out. Keep that float tilted back (upstream) just a little bit. People give ya all kinds of funny looks, but the stop laughin when you are reeling in tons of fish. This set up has been killer for me on the Genny and the tiny creeks, and I have had luck with it on Osweg and the Salmon as well....... Drop me an email if you want to know more....

Bill from the Testle Cafe would sell that setup with the wrap around guides as a low cost intoductory float fishing setup. Has NE1 scene Bill or Bob? How about the Trestle, is it open and who is running the show over there now?

bob did the ol 23 ski-doo(always a sled reference in there somewhere:p ) to god knows where with a line of people behind him with their hand out......
bill, dunno bout bill. he was from nj and thats all im sayin about that.
tressle cafe has a 2x4 nailed over every entrance and never will a "fretta"(a mess of bits thrown together that was so huge you could make an all day meal out of it) be prepared for an all day ice fishing adventure for me again .....damn you bob, damn you!:(:D

I was going to mention keuka in my last post but thought if he was around he could tell you better. Trust me dont give him funny looks cuse the man can put a hurtin on the fish. I just need him to try out one of my pins!!!
keuka - now that you are back around, keep in touch. We have to hook up and fish in October because I wont be doing much fishing after that till spring, except maybe hitting the finger tribs a couple of times before the closer.

Will do, man...I'm not teaching this year, so I may have more time to fish than last year. More flexibility in my schedule, any way. Let me know when you make it up this way, and I will se if I can get out. The big O is already rolling, and yesterdayI managed to get a few trout under my belt for this season. Of course, a couple snaggers followed me around for a while after that, but what are ya gonna do?

I've done some floating with my casting setup and it worked fine. The best reel to use is one with a direct drive switch. This will allow you to override the drag system and have more control when fighting fish.
