That's a good thing! Are they ticketing anyone? Snagging/Lining? What is the fine for that? Just curious. I know here in Ohio that they are no where to be found this time of year.

I rember last year when I saw a DEC officer walking the river bank (plain clothes) .. he was checking licenses and snaggers. There were 2 fellows a little upstream of me and he tapped em on the shoulder ... took there Drivers licenses and told them to head up to his truck in the parking lot and wait.
Well when I got up there an hour later .. Man o Man .. there were about 30 people all lined up !
They are out there and getting the snaggers ! Good for them !!!!!
Im curious myself .. anyone know what the fine is for lining/snagging ?

I got popped 2 years ago with a hook gap of 5/8". I couldnt believe he would write me up considering the debauchery that was going on all around me. The fine was 50 or 75 bucks I think. I never keep fish but I heard if you're in posession of 'em and get caught its 150 per fish plus the fine.

Another thing - Don't ever net a fish for someone if you don't know where it's hooked.. If you net it and its fouled and the other guy keeps it, you'll get a ticket too..

WOW .. thanks for that tidbit of info stonefly. I never realized that if i netted a fish for someone i could get a ticket too because the fish was foulhooked.
I know one person who is going to be more careful from now on !

What does it matter? If you are doing things the way it should be then there is no need to worry about them. Must be I am not a ripper, was there the last 2 days and one time yesterday when I turned around there was one standing there. He never asked to even seee my lic. As soon as I see him he turned and walked away. Also see them in a drift boat Monday on the upper river.

Thanks for the info. My wife was starting to grumble on how much more money I was going to have to spend on this. But now I have this info and she is all for me changing my technique and tackle. My dad got tickets in Brownville many years ago, he paid out close to a $1,000 in fines. We had 6 fish plus we were snagging. Then it was legal to snag in Dexter, we had no idea that it was illegal there. I learned to do my homework before I go somewhere now. That is why I think this site is the second coming.

Talked with a guy named Al on Sept. 9th who told me that DEC folks were writing tickets for pizzing in the woods  for "spotting fish" (OMG how do we keep from doing that ??) among other things that don't seem to be written in the regulations ... his opinion, DEC folks are ruining the fishery ... just an opinion, and maybe just BS overall ... Hey now, let's keep this in perspective. While I don't doubt Cliff this info is third hand, at best, from some "guy named Al". For all we know, ol' Al could have been "sightfishing" with a pair of goggles and a snorkle, had a few to many snorts of his flask, walked bankside, and pizzed on the ECO's leg!!! BANG...here are your tickets.:D

Good point Kranefly, I have to agree with you.... I think it may be a "stretch".. And for all you guys that ever tried to take a wizz without removing your waders completely ---- you know what I mean!!!

Honestly I dodn't read his post all that closely, I got the impression at first that he knew the guy.
Kinda hard to check the veracity of a third hand account.
Man, I'm just wrong all over the place today...:o
Maybe I should just break out my "jump to conclusions" mat

Wonder what kind of fine I would have gotten on Monday morning in the DSR if the law would have caught me? I took a pizz out in the river just below the Joss Hole and no, I didn't fill up my waders if you know what I mean.......There was no one around that I could see so why waste time walking to the bank and back..............unless I was being watched by the binocular wearing gang...........Keith:D

Hey Biggie...If you lived up to your screen name then they wouldn't need the binocs!!! :D :D :D

Regarding the spotting fish ticket, Al reported it as a $50 pop ... said he wouldn't have believed it if he hadn't seen the ticket himself. Personally, I think either his bud was BS'ing him with a bogus ticket, or Al was BS'ing me ... I look pretty gullible, so maybe that's it (brains drained out as the hair color faded ...) obviously there's no regulation in the L Ontario and tribs that talks about spotting fish, so maybe it's a general one along with the one that says you can only shoot frogs if you are carrying a hunting license ... Oh well, it was as much fun talking to Al as it was straightening out the hook on my only good head shaker for the day ... I obviously had "prepared to fail" ;) ... I will upgrade my hooks/flies before my next visit 10/13 and 10/14 ...

OOPS, shoulda mentioned I was in the Altmar area PM's Wed thru Fri 9/7 to 9/9 and in the Staircase, Long Bridge, Town Pool area AM on the 8th and 9th and did not spy any DEC folks or look-alikes ... I know that's a bit early, but I usually see at least a DEC SUV or 2 even in July and August ... cg

Never heard of a ticket fro spotting fish, but I know it is illegal to try and "spook" them out of the hole/cover, which makes sense. I'll have to check my regs up close and see what the deal is...

I spotted 3 DEC guys in a jeep leaving the ballpark yesterday, and all were identifiable (even with out the green jeep and EnCon sticker on the side). Maybe they're finally going to start to crack down as we're getting closer to peak season.
