Metalslayer's post on SR Tarpon got me thinking of a Sept. trip a few years ago when I caught and released 3-4 Lake trout in a Mid-river hole. I recall it started as a banner day for fallfish until the Lakers showed up. Has anyone else run ito this recently. I haven't been fishing the river before October lately, but I plan to make some trips this Sept. and was wondering if this is normal.

Not normal, but it happens.1yr(day after the season), the river was loaded and people were stringing em up.

I saw one come from the Cemetary Hole area about 8 years ago (well below 2A Bridge). An oriental guy caught it and tried to tell us he caught a "walr-eye". In between rolling on the ground LMAO, we told him it was a "rake tlout" and it had to go back (which it didn't   ). So...instead of give him a hard time...we went back fishing...no sense in starting a big blow-out if he wanted to take the chance in getting caught. And we weren't walking back nearly a mile to the car to go find a phone...you could tell it was a laker from a quarter-mile away...any ECO's around would have seen it easy.

And just so we don't get carried away...no offense meant to anyone, in any way, with my "oriental verbage meanderings". The guy said he was from Cleveland!!!   ...whoa, guess I better quit while I'm ahead before I get myself in to any more trouble!!!

"rake tlout" and it had to go back (which it didn't   ). why did it have to go back? was it out of season or in the slot? the season is from jan 1rst to sep 30th and the slot is between 25 and 30. 3 per day. were the regs different back then? just curious. :)

The ones I got were all slot fish. Did see one go into a backpack as we were walking out. I was above the papermill, which seemed kind of far upstream for a non spawning run, plus I though Lakers spawned in the lake. Just seemed odd.

I'm pretty sure the slot limit was in effect because it would have been around 1997 and I can remember be on charters during '95 and having to throw 'em back. We didn't measure the fish, so the slot size was not the issue...it being around the 3rd week in October was most definitely an "issue".

I have heard of them being caught as high up as the schoolhouse and fly zones in the middle of winter. I think they are just dumb, looking for food or chasing a cute steelie up stream! :D
