Just see on my local news that there is a new map of Lake Champlain on display at the Echo Center in Burlington Vermont. It took them ten years of taking sonar readings of the lake and they have found many new reefs :D and shipwrecks. It was the largest sonar mapping project in history and they hope it will give them a better understanding of the water flow and currents in the lake. There was no mention of it being printed off so that copies could be purchased, hope they do that. Also they did not find Champ, the monster of Champlain  that has multiple sightings reported, they think he's not real. ;)

wb-
Champ is supposedly like the Loch Ness Monster  but in Lake Champlain-
I believe it's a myth but many will argue it's real.
Now and then I've seen them around Oswego harbor along with UFOs and aliens but only on the rough nights ;)

Gottum is right on the money. He is Lake Champlains version of the Loch Ness monster. I have seen some photos that people have taken and it really makes you wonder if it is something from the past. It is said that it is a pleeceasuor(SP)which is a water dinasuor from the messissoiac period that eats fish. It would of had to survive through the ice age. Most of the reported sightings are from the mid southern part of the lake in the Point Henry area.

When I was a kid I used to see reports on the news, etc about sightings of Champ. From what I understand they think that people are seeing large sturgeon rising to the surface.
Couple of guys found a big one in the Niagara river a few months ago:

In othert areas they get larger than 14ft and several hundred pounds.

In some of the photos I have seen this sturegon has a neck. It is said that they think thats what people are seeing and I'm sure it is in some instances. But someone standing on the shore would not get a picture of something(sturegon) with it's head and neck sticking out of the water. Is there a creature in Champlain, anything is possible. Those photos do make you wonder what the heck it could be.
