When I lived in your neck of the woods the Lack was a superb, little-known trout river. Before Meck's article we used to hvae the entire river, save for some kids, to ourselves; catching wild browns over great hatches and even better spinner falls. I used to fish it 3-4 times per week. In the late 90's there was a sewage spill upstream of DC that put a hurting on the river but I now understand that it is getting back to pre-spill days. Keep in mind, you did have to focus your attention upriver from Scranton....on the other side of 81.

I'll need to do some more digging because I was planning on pounding Peckville next time in to see my folks.

No need to worry, Lacky still has some nice fish. There was a big flood last year that screwed up the hatch and a few fish but there is still some nice water to fish. I work at the old Specialty Records and get off at 6 so I hit there prolly 3 times a week after work. Right in DC behind the plant there is a huge fish. Prolly the best place still in NE Pa to tangle with a good brown...

Glad to hear it's come back. That sewage spill really knocked it down. The bug life just went away and that made fishing very difficult. It was a damn fine river, especially before Mr. Meck let the word out.

I used to fish it from the bridge in Peckville all the way up to the sewage plant...always great water for evening sulphur hatches and spinner falls (but you never knew who would drive in on the old RR bed, or what they would do). A few other places that I liked were up off of High Street all the way up past the next bridge, past the Co-Gen plant, to just shy of the Ballfield. Lot's of pigs through there...but it eventually got thinnned out by the local kids dunking bait. I never really minded as there were worse things for them to do--even though that water was special regs. I also liked to fish in DC behind the then PNC bank from the bridge upstream to the bridge at High Street was a favorite winter stretch for me.

I'll definitely check her out when I'm in next.

Hap - I fished it about 3 years ago - in and just above Jessup. Supposedly the mine water drainage keeps the temps at a near perfect 55deg...

I caught a few nice browns, but it was tough to get to swim out from behind them sunken grocery carts and other debris onthe river bottom...

Not exactly what I call scenic...

you are correct - the lower end down near Duryea is as orange as orange gets!!!
