Hap - tell them the truth...Greed will make people do strange things..
They certainly are not role models...That is why you have kids today shooting up that junk..
Personally, I gave up on baseball years ago after the first strike.

Bunch of overpriced bums if u ask me.

happy, i am going thru the same thing with my son. just tell him to hate the player, not the game. something good will come of all of this. i have coached my son's team for 6 years and have seen what youth sports has become. things like this have to come out to prevent todays kids from doing the same thing.

my boys played football, baseball, and soccer! there are not anymore role models.... except MYSELF!!!!! my boys can fish, and hunt!!!!! they have thier own poles, reels, and guns!!!! they dont need to boot up to go fishing or hunting! they are a lot smarter than that! as long as they dont follow the happy drinkin ways, they will be allright!!!!!

The lack of responsibility these athletes have for being "role models" is disgusting, all I am telling my 2 boys (11 & 13) is that people will cheat any and everywhere that they think they can, so you must always be vigilant. Anything worth having or achieving is worth earning it the right way, after all it is not the destination so much as it is the journey that we will always remember and cherish.

I understand the argument that they are making but what gets me is Jose Canseco. What a loser. He sucked when he played and now that he needs money he ruins guys lives. He jsut flat out p*sses me off. I am not saying the drug use is good but it was nice to "THINK" that at least on sport was trust worthy. Now who knows. I still love baseball and will watch it.

as a senior member , i apologize for the bad language, but when you have two sons that look up to these jokers you tend to loose your koool! again i apologize because we are better than that!

Even though I played football, basketball and hockey in school, as soon as I hit college back in the early '80's that stuff was going on day in and out with even Division III schools. I just said screw it and left those losers behind and quit playing everything all together. No matter which sport it was, you couldn't get away from it.

All I can say is thank god for hunting and fishing where its just you and the critter you're up against. I learned more valuable lessons by being out in the woods and on the water than anywhere else...not to mention making some great friends along the way. My two are just little mites yet, but already at 3 and 5 they love the woods and water. Sports are great, don't get me wrong, but once "big business" gets in to sports it's only a matter of time before greed, egos and drugs (whatever kind) control the sport and enough "athletes" to taint everything.

Tod...well put man...well put.

Having been on steroids for a good solid 18 months, I can honestly say I don't know HOW they could do it as long as they did. I had to have steroid injections with my spinal injury. Very similar stuff as those guys were using. No wonder some of them get so heated and charge the mound so easily (or accused of hitting their spouses, etc). The stuff REALLY screws you up. It worked wonders for me actually. But was used for it's intended purpose.

Yup, I lost the luster for pro sports in the late 80's/early 90's. Was more about the money, and not about the game. Wasn't something I cared for. So just stuck with my hunting/fishing/whitewatering.

I had to go on the "juice" so I can cast effortlessly all day long for the FEW fish that make a spawning run.

cray, thankfully the parents of the kids i coach are great. no problems throughout the years. i attended several coaching clinics and have seen videos of some all out doneybrooks. it made me sick. i hate to say it but as my kids got older (9 & 11 now) i noticed how competitive things got. people have forgotten that it is all about the kids.
what a joke to see mcguire, canseco, and the rest of them say nothing on TV today. why were they there? too many questions, not enough answers. more tax dollars hard at work i guess. it's all a hypocresy, millionaires questioning millionares.
