I would just like to say hello to all the members out there. Unfortunately I don't live on the west coast. I would love to get in on some of the action out there. I do, however, live right on Lake Superior and fish the rivers and streams of Superior and Lake Michigan as well as working the lakes in the summer. If there are any other members out there from the great lakes please feel free to drop me a line.

Welcome aboard man. This board was founded by a bunch of us that fish Lake Ontario on the eastern side around the Salmon River area. Now it has grown! So welcome aboard man!! Now we finally got someone in the middle!!!

My mistake. I was under the impression it was a Olypic Peninsula thing. Nice to have some info. on the Eastern Great Lakes.

What kind of fishing are you looking for? River or big lake? Either way there are options.

I'd mostly be fishing the lakes off shore but off course trib fishing always interests me as well. Any good websites for the UP that I should check out?

Thanks

He must've seen one of my posts or was thinking the Salmon River here in WA (which is a pretty good river as well here on the OlyPen). So may have been the confusion.

I had to check my map to see where Marquette is... SuperiorChrome - you are wayyyyyy up there... I bet it is spectacular country.

Out of curiosity I have a few questions:

1)What is the predominant salmonoid species in Lake Superior - Salmon or Steelhead?

2)Does natural reproduction take care of itself or is your area a "Put & Take" Fishery like most of Lake Ontario?

3) Do you ever see Ted Nugent riding by on his Great White Buffalo? (had to ask:D ).

Gman you got to be kidding. He stuck an arrow through that buffalo years ago. Still finishing the rump roasts and wearing the hide as a$$less chaps and a headband.

There are a few websites to check out for fishing reports, however I would definitely recommend calling a local DNR office or sports store. www.baysdenoc.com gives a great report on the Big Bay and Little Bay De Noc area on Lake Michigan. Great summer trolling for salmon and Skamania steelhead and then runs or Skamania on select local rivers of Lake Michigan. www.michigan.gov/dnr will give you a weekly fishing report as well. You can also check on fish stocking data on that site to see if a body of water has been planted recently. You can always drop me a line and let me know when you're coming, what you're looking for, and where you're going and I can generally steer you in the right direction. I would highly recommend the St. Mary's River in Sault Ste. Marie in June and July for some Atlantic Salmon fishing in the rapids. My steelhead fishing generally ends in mid to end of May. I spend most of July and August trolling for kings in Lake Michigan and Huron. Then I return to the rivers in Sept. on through November chasing kings, coho, big browns, and fall steelhead.

In response to the other questions:

Steelhead and coho salmon are present in Lake Superior, but Lake Trout by far make up the population of fish. We don't have much of a king salmon fishery here due to the cold water and lower levels of bait fish.

Coho and King Salmon make strong runs on local rivers, however, they are supplemented by annual plantings.

Yes, I've met with Ted Nugent.

I hope this helps.
