<HR>New York hunters are in an uproar over state assembly Bill 1850 that would make sport hunting a punishable act of animal cruelty.
The bill, introduced by Assemblyman Alexander Grannis, New York City Democrat, would revise the state's definition of animal cruelty to include the "killing or injuring [of] wild game and wild birds." The revision would make hunting and trapping activities criminal offenses. The bill is now being considered before the body's Agriculture Committee.
"The bill creates a contradiction in the law [because] the state code allows regulated hunting," said Tony Celebrezze of the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance, a national watchdog group that is ready to enter the fray whenever Americans' right to hunt is challenged. "If [this] becomes law, anti-hunters will have a field day ensuring that sportsmen are prosecuted on animal cruelty charges."

I saw that on another fishing/hunting site..
Keep in mind that this is simply a "bill" presented by a NYC politician.

If it ever really passes, I would be totally shocked, even though I am not a hunter/trapper, I think that they must be represented as well.

It does make you think about the dangers of out-of-control legislatures and far-fetched special interests groups such as PETA.

I doubt this would pass, NY makes too much money from Hunting, Fishing, etc.

2 things that fire me up more than anything. PETA and liberal politicians. These same liberals are the ones saying that it isn't right to say Merry Christmas because you may offend someone by having the word Christ embedded in the message.

Hey Toolmaker.Thought you would enjoy this.

Too many PC mavens where I live in SE PA.I read today that a certain nearby nursery school has decided to change Easter Egg hunt to SPRING Egg Hunt.Afraid one of their little darlings might be offended by the word "Easter"

Sometimes I wonder if these people have anything to do except find things to make our whole existence PC.This stuff still makes me mad

Hey AFISHIN and Tooly you guys will love this. I drove past the Harrisburg Mall last night (Where Bass Pro Shops is located) and on a big @ss sign they have "Bring your pets to the mall to get there picture taken with THE BUNNY!!!" I was like WTF!!! What happened to Easter??? Damn Liberal jerk off's! I can't wait till they find out that all the stuff they are trying to ban and protect society from is what there kids are smoking or doing behind there back!!

I know this Pot head (BTW he is 17) that his mom is one of these Kerry supporters and animal rights people and anti-drug person and president of MADD. In the mean time her kid is out doing drugs, drinking and driving and going against anything she does. This whole thing where they want to protect everyone will come around full circle and bite them in the butt.

All I can say is...NO WAY!!! Come hell or high water, I'm going to hunt and fish in NY until they have to pry my fly rod, bow and shotgun from my cold, dead hands!!! And I'll continue to promote & teach hunting and fishing to kids, teenagers or anyone wanting to learn more about it.

Damn...I can honestly say, that if it weren't for the hunting and fishing I did when I was a kid with my grand father, dad and uncle...I probably wouldn't be here today. For a long time it was all that kept me going and all I ever wanted to do.

Maybe someone ought to show Mr. Liberal NYC politician what a group of deer yarded-up and starving in the winter look like. I understand its only a proposal (or whatever), but this dude will stir-up one of the biggest hornet's nests ever imagined...plus, I'd like to see where his "funding" is coming from...no doubt someone's put "opinion" $$$ in his campaign pocket.

Sounds to me like they have introduced a bill to try and get caged hunts banned, that is a hot issue in many places beside N.Y. Sounds like N.Y. is trying to be the first to do something about it. I really don't care if someone pays to hunt an animial in a fenced in area but that does not sound to sporting to me and is not hunting, the animial has no chance to escape and is somewhat used to people. I do not hunt myself but believe it is an important management tool for keeping game populations in check. As far as caged hunts go it is what you think is right or wrong as to your view on it, as they say to each their own.

Caged hunts are ok if they are cageing in a few 1000 acres. THere is one here by me and we went up for a pheasant hunt and I will tell you this, once you went through the gate to the club house no matter how far we walked we never seen another fence.

Now if some one fences in 10 acres and puts animals in it, that is wrong and unsporting.

Think like that lets things happen. There was a time where a 12 year old kid (me) could walk around his home town in BUcks county PA with a shot gun across his shoulder. Try doing that in Bensalem, or Stroudsburg or most places now. The law lets you walk around with a side arm in plain view with out any permits, give it a try and see how long it take to have the po po called on you.

when i was a kid, just like ditch, we walked to our hunting spots after school every day! shotguns and bows, we hunted in our back yards, my kids will never know that feeling. :(

Hey Happy,

It kind of sucks that our kids can grow up like we did. My wife a I are looking for a house in the wood in NE PA, so atleast our kids will be able to walk around our land after school. Its a shame that so many people grow up with out guns, and because they dont they fear them. Guns are just dangerous tools, If someone learns to use them, then there is some measure of safety.
