I had planned on the salmon this weekend, but 1800 and 21-6 deg. not ideal. Need info. on the Erie tribs. A reliable shop/motel and the name of the town so I can mapquest directions. Any reoprts would also be helpful..

If you would like to fish the east side tribs, you can call Poor Richard's for trib conditions. The shop is located on rt.5 north of the town of Northeast, PA. Right up the hill is the Colonial Motel for about 50 bucks a night, and at the bottom of that hill is the Freeport Restaurant, very good food. 12 mile is just to the west of there, 16 mile is right there, and 20 mile is 4 miles east. Try to hit it soon with the cold temps here now. Check out FishErie.com you can find the number for the tackle shop I mentioned and any maps you might need. Good Luck if you go!

slippery,

steeliej is not blowin' smoke here...the freeport restaurant is truly a diamond in the ruff... my buddies and i were pleasantly surprised a few weeks back after a long, hard day fishing in some serious weather to get there for some good food, beers, and the game. if you're going that far, i'd say just drive up and down rte 5 until you find fishy-looking water. if you've fished erie before, you know that means emerald greenish. fish the water around the bridges and work downriver, that way you can quickly re-locate if the fish aren't co-operating. try walnut (manchester pool always holds fish) and lower elk has been hot with black stones....but i had heard the tribs were pretty blown out this weekend??????

Fisherie.com will fill you with all the knowledge you need for a succesful trip to Erie. The angler maps alone are worth their weight in gold and only take a couple of minutes to print.

If you don't like the large slinkies try a float and jig combo tipped with a bait like spawn or mousies and fish on the slower side of the rivers seams. You will be pleasantly surprised. Also remember don't wade as the fish most likely are only a couple of feet from shore out of the main current.

and hey.....if you know it is gonna be frickin' cold, the night before you go fishing eat a lot of beans . This allows you to seriously fart the next morning, keeping you nice and toasty as your waders retain the heat!
