I was wondering if you got an answer from the DEC about which would be better for the fishery in regards to keeping a buck or a hen. I don't keep that many fish either when trib fishing and when I do it is a male because that is what I think would be least harmful to the population. That one female you release this year could be 3 or 5 or 10 fish more down the road, just my opinion.

Thanks for verifying, 4 years of schooling on fisheries and aquaculture would lead me to think that was something you covered in that time.

Thanks Big Red, your answer is good enough for me.
I just thought that maybe there was a shortage of males or something,, but if them jacks can run from redd to redd and spread the seed of future steelies, then I guess it makes sense to keep the males if you want to make the least amount of impact of the fishery as a whole.
just curious, where did you attend school for that?

State University of NY at Cobleskill
great school that emphasizes hands on (every single lab we were outside) and small classes (my largest class was only 30 students, most labs had 8 or 10 students)
also put me 1 hour closer to the salmon river than my original place of residence!!
lots of great hunting and fishing surrounding the campus!

Very entertaining thread....
Good bunch of folk who can bust on each other - and Val - you are a trooper who can dish it out like a Pro and take a shot right back.
But, that little Moderator Guy sitting on my shoulder just told me that maybe it's time to pull the curtain down on this stage..;)
Say Goodnite Johnny!!
