Been doing a frickin' number on the 'bows on Skaneatlas ( for you local Syracusans ) of the pier in town. The usual marshmallow/worm combo is the ticket. Been catching some nice sized perch and lakers mixed in too!

Ah Yes, worm/marshmallow, the old "Skaneateles lake special". I love shore fishing in that lake. If the fish aren't biting, you can always stop in at Doug's fish fry and get your fill.

Or eat yer marshmallows.....Gdawggie....life with a new kid is, well...time consuming. But, yes, besides that, you are correct....they chucked me in a time out room and lost the key. But I am back...oh and, uh, craypuppy and I have an award for ya....you'll see what I mean next week. I just have to get it together and send it to craypuppy....never landed a steelie...bwahhhhhhhhh hahahahahahahahahahahaha

This may seem like a dumb question, but could you explain how you fish that marshmallow/worm combo? I live in Syracuse and have heard about it working great at Skaneateles, but always wondered how to fish it. I'm actually thinking about taking a trip out there next week. Thanks

I live in Syracuse and have heard about it working great at Skaneateles, but always wondered how to fish it. I'm actually thinking about taking a trip out there next week. ThanksThis is how I do it. First thing you need is stale, dry marshmallows. I rig a slip sinker on my mainline, then a swivel to 2-6 feet of leader (depending on water depth, conditions, ect.), then the hook. I like a #4 baitholder. Thread the marshmallow onto the hook all the way up so it is just above the eye. Then thread the worm onto the hook. Keep the worm fairly straight, don't ball it up. Cast it out and back your drag off to almost nothing unless you are going to be within arms-reach of the rod, and alert. I like a casting reel with a clicker. Then sit back and relax.
The marshmallow will float the worm up off the bottom and into the strikezone. Check your rig occasionally to make sure the marshmallow didn't dissolve or get waterlogged. Small, inline slip floats can be used instead of marshmallows but they don't work as well on this lake for some reason. Good luck!
