Im trying to find out what tackle I should bring for Stealhead. Im not interested in slinging lead. I am a traditional fly fisherman. The only tackle I've used for Kings is Stealhead hammers, and wollybuggers.

Anything work on the surface, or should I stay below? Inquiring for the Spring, and Fall.

Thx guys!

Eggs, nymphs and buggers for winter and swing some streamers for the drop backs in the spring!!! Basiacally what every you would use for normal stream trout. I don't know if they ever feed on the surface. I don't see why not and they say atlantics do so why not summer skamania!!

In BC, they skate drys to steelies holding in pools, but I have only heard rumors of guys taking steelies on drys here....

I am far from an expert - at anything but for steel

you gotta get down and bounce bottom - especially as the temps keep getting lower.. In mid winter, the steel are in deep pools and they are not going to move far for anything... In Jan you don't even start fishing till the sun gets up in the sky...(great consolaltion - you can hang in a bar and talk to snowmobile chicks into the wee hrs).

Flies I would take -

black stones - #10,#12
woolybuggers - beaded heads - black,purple,olive #6.#8
egg patterns - you pick em
crystal meth - a weird looking fly - see steelhead101.com
egg sucking leaches - red/chartruse heads #8,#10
caddis - chartruse/yellow/red in them #10,#12

Don't forget the spinning outfit and thill bobbers... Once it get below 30, leave the fly outfit next to the fireplace.

Good Luck.
