I noticed a lot more Jacks being caught this year. My question is that are these fish just dumb and following the bigger ones in or is there something messed up with them? If they are just retarded and following them in will they go back to the lake and come back later?

What happened is, the alewife population is gone and those are actually adult fish. Thats all they grew. A bunch of midgets!...lmao

Someone told me they are immature males making a practice run... I don't buy that - they are not Nascar drivers , they are fish..

I have to agree with Carpman - I think they are the results of LO forage base depetion.

Now the DEC will stock more Salmon for the charter boat captains..
Great strategy....

From what I have been lead to believe, Jacks are sexually mature 1-2 year old males that are making the run. On the west coast, they use them to predict future runs as a certain percentage (maybe 5, i don't know??) of stocked fish are usually jacks. I think for us, it means that the forage base is crashing, but who really knows for sure? It could mean great survial rates out in the lake...........
