Well, being in NC the last couple years and hearing the reports of giant reds made me break down and hire a guide for the 1st time last August. It was awesome as you will see my the pics. The largest was just over 50lbs. I think we caught 8 in about 6 hours of fishing and probably would have done better if a group of Dolphins hadnt ruined our 1st stop. All the fishing was done in Pamlico Sound right off the shores of Oriental, NC (Unfortunately this was also the place where last summers devestating hurricane made landfall. The town was at the center and took a really bad hit.) We never went more then 2 miles offshore and even though it was windy and the waves were anywhere from 1 - 3 feet, it was comfortable. We fished cutbait on drum rigs which consists of a heavy egg sinker about 2- 3' of leader going to a huge circle hook with large pieces of fresh caught cutbait, both Menhaden and Mullet. My goal on htis trip was to catch a bull Red with the guide and hit the water from shore with artificials in the hopes of catching my 1st Spotted Trout. The trout came much easier then I thought and on a popper which made it extra cool. I managed about 4 trout, and couple flounder that day and lost a good puppy drum to some dock pilings just throwing jigs from shore. My wife also caught a couple small trout, her first flounder and a beautiful puppy. It was an awesome trip.

Well done...my brother just moved down there and is excited to go out. I'll be down there in a month or so and will try my luck near devils hills (I think that's the place).
