Even before SalmonCrazy became what it is today it was slowing hatching in my cranium. During the early eighties my father and his cohorts Joe, Charlie, Paul, Dave, John and a host of others had been making the trek north to Pulaski, NY. When I was about 13 I was invited to tag along for the ritual journey up Route 81. I know now that trip possibly altered the rest of my life. I was hooked just like everyone else who walks through the hallowed digital doors of SalmonCrazy.
After that initial trip I ended up spending quite a few fall seasons playing with the pigskin. Pius X treated me well in high school and I had a great 4 seasons on the field at Lafayette College. The minute I finished up my football and college career I heard the calling. That bug that gets us every fall, the one I experienced almost 8 years earlier. Some call it an itch, some call it an obsession. I called it just plain ‘crazy’… and there in my first season back on the river an idea was start to hatch.
My occupational calling as a designer started to evolve and I need a place to experiment with my digital creativity. To go along with that I began to plan for my annual fall trek all year.
During this time I became close with my dad, and his friends. One of those young fellas was named John and he and I seemed to have a bit in common. So we started the wheels-a-turning. As we kicked around ideas the digital age was on the rise, as was the internet and after learning a thing or two about salmon fishing we decided we’d like a place to showcase our photos on the net to share amongst other friends. So in the fall of 2002, what is now our home-away-from-home, came to be. SalmonCrazy.com was born.
Its been almost 6 years since I put up the first pages. I giggle to myself sometimes after looking into the ‘Wayback Machine’ and seeing how far we have come. Technologies have changed, facelifts have been done and about 3500 people + have joined the party along the way.
Its been a blast every step of the way and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have met a ton of great people along the way and I would be remiss to not say I haven’t done this alone. Those great people I met, yea they joined the ‘crazy’ fray. John, he is now a partner in this venture. Myron, Paul, Jeff and our newest kiddie Rich complete what is an insane crew of dedicated, like-minded, obsessed fishermen with the passion to bring you… SalmonCrazy.
Enjoy the insanity…
