A Lull In the Storm. The SalmonCrazy ‘Week Ahead’.

SummerFest 2009 has come and went and man was it a blast. Our biggest turnout ever, most prizes and some great food provided by Fox Hollow. This weekend I will post the photos and list of raffle winners as well as all of our sponsors who we thanks dearly for all of the donations.

Now on to the fun stuff… We did see an early blast of fish this past week and things seemed awfully good for earl September but all good things must come to an end. It looks to have slowed a bit in the lower river and the push from the last week is mid to upper river right now. We did however see quite a mix of fish for this early in the season. There were many reports around the ‘internets’ of nice steelhead, browns and cohos as well as the big boy kings. it also seems sizes are up this year as most of the photos being posted are showing some hefty Kings! Make sure you bring that heavier leader this season!

Ahhhhh… what does the crystal ball show for the coming weeks. I wouldn’t be Nostradamus if I told you to expect temps, water conditions and precipitation to play an important role in what triggers the kings to move up in large numbers. To help in your quest to get ready for the season below is a summary of all of the coming week details:

Water Conditions/Levels:

The Flowcast has just been updated till next Friday September 25th at 335 CFS. The most current reading at the Pineville gauge is 405CFS and holding steady.  (P.S. the flowcast output on the forums right hand bar should be fixed this week for those who have been missing it.)

Weather Details:

The 5-Day forecast has lows into the 30s Saturday night. Temps look to warm up a bit in the 60s and 70s early week next week but then dip again by Thursday of next week. Look for Rain around Wednesday and Friday/Saturday with lows at night in the 40s.

Fly/Bait Details:

Guys on the river are reporting good success with all of the usual suspects; Estaz eggs, Comets and Stoneflies.

I hope these summarized details can help all of you newcomers and old-timers alike. If you like this new idea drop us a line on the forums and let us know.

Look for Video and Photo contest details this coming week.

May Your Lines Be Tight and Nets Heavy!
