Hatchery Egg Collection In Trouble - Help Where You Can!

As many of you have already learned, the hatchery on the Salmon River is in a bit of a situation. Their normal take of over 3 million eggs is in serious jeopardy due to the low numbers of salmon that have reached the hatchery. Because the fish raised at the SR hatchery are also stocked in other areas out west, other tributaries besides the SR are in danger. They are currently doing everything they can to alleviate the situation, however we are getting close to the end of the run, which makes collection even harder if not impossible. ‘Gebbyfish’ has been in contact with the hatchery daily with updates to SC Nation. I pledged any support I and the site could lend them in their quest to make up the egg shortage and emplore you all to do the same. These guys and gals at the hatcehry and DEC work hard year in and year out to keep this one of the best fisheries on the East Coast. Any help you can lend them I am sure would be greatly appreciated…

Even if the call does not go out, show them your support… if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have 30+ lb. King Salmon, 20+ lb. Steelhead, Cohos, Brown Trout , Atlantic Salmon and the list goes on. Thanks goes out to the Hatchery workers and DEC, I appreciate all that you do and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

What do you suppose we should do to “aleviate the problem”. You did’nt say what it is you would like everyone to do. Please offer more details.
